I've been looking at powerline networking and found this D-Link promo.  There's a few other deals running in the link as well.

Buy the power line kit DHP-P309AV (contains two adaptors) from participating stores and get another DHP-P309AV kit free via redemption/claim.

Key points.

  • Must purchase before 30-June-2017
  • D-Link must get claim before 14-July-2017
  • Claim may take up to 60 days
  • 1 per person and 1 per household

As at today (26-June) PBtech is $119Computer lounge etc are about the same price but there's no info as to if they are a participating store

For those promos, you need to keep the box so that you have the barcode off it. I got caught out since I tend to unbox things in the garage as soon as I am home so that the trash never comes into the house.

That's a nice deal for someone needing a set of these units.  Note these have 100mbps ethernet ports, so users will never be able to get anywhere near the 'headline' rate of 500mbps.

The other thing is that once you start adding 3+ units the speed is also reduced if all endpoints/adaptors are actively using the network (the power cables in your house) competing for the same available bandwidth.

With powerline it pays to do a bit of homework beforehand due to some of the quirks. eg I once lived in place where for whatever reason some of the power outlets weren't "connected" to each other so there was no way I could get the powerline adaptors I had to work.

I bought a pair of these with the same deal a couple of months back, my claim has apparently been accepted, still waiting for them to turn up, so bear in mind you are likely to be waiting 2+ months for the extra 2 to turn up.

I had a hell of a time getting them to sync, turns out they're a bit picky about being on the same circuit as eachother, or at least they are with the wiring in my budget house.

Once synced, they seem to work ok. I get around 70Mbps out of them which is fine for what I wanted.

Thanks for this! Our garage door opener has no remote so I have a Raspberry Pi sitting in the garage so we can use our phones to activate the door (this guide plus some modifications: http://www.instructables.com/id/Raspberry-Pi-Garage-Door-Opener/). It works great... when the Wifi can reach, which is 50/50. I hadn't even thought of using Powerline Networking till this popped up.  I set it up yesterday and it's so much faster and more reliable than the Wifi to our garage.
