no you dont need the steam controller.  I use a playstation 4 controller with mine.  It has completely native support for that controller and steam can use the touch pad etc on it.   With the community controller configs it can make the touchpad on it quite powerful.   But I generally just use it as a xbox controller basically.

To pair the PS4 controller you just need a keyboard to get into the bluetooth settings then pair and done.  It can turn on the steam link when you turn the controller on.

The steam controller is a POS IMO.

I just got one from EB Games on Cuba Street - ordered online, picked up in store. When I was picking it up there were 2 other people inquiring about them and the salesman said it has been non-stop even though they only ever had 1 in stock and it was sold to me before the store opened.

I got some pretty sour looks picking it up from other people wanting one...

Does it come with a plug converter or is it native NZ plugs?

A mate sent this through to me this morning and I snagged the one in palmy before opening time, picked it up tonight and looking forward to having a fiddle over the weekend.

Ordered mine at 7:30am this morning and of the three stores in Hamilton only one had one in stock, the other two had none.

Got a notification less than half hour later saying it was ready to pickup which I did later in the afternoon.
