I purchased these for work, and while they are ok for video calls and presentations its not great for dark content like perhaps movies.

My flatmate had one of these, Will break the panel easily if you do not lift it properly.. We did in the recent move..

Also it seemed to have issues with processing 4K and 1080P over HDMI, would tear bad and the FPS was quite low.

I've been largely disappointed with the 50" 4K Veon. The detail in darker scenes is complete rubbish.

Price was great. Sound is rubbish, over picture is below average. (although program with high brightness eg cartoons, animated programs are ok) Should have saved up couple extra $$$ and got a Samsung, LG, Sony, Panasonic.

The saying 'you get what you pay for'' is never truer when buying a Veon. Be prepared to be disappointed.

Looks so tempting at the price, but 4k HDR TVs have dropped so much in price.

And LED TVs are now starting to shift down to overtake in 4k HDR. I know from my phones 1440p HDR on an OLED is insanely good. So I cant wait to get a decent tv.

I don't have a TV myself but my parents have a 1080p 40" Veon that has been fine after being calibrated (with a ColorMunki Display and DisplayCAL) and running through a PC for the most part. Default settings were awful though, took some pretty drastic changes to get gamma and white point close to 2.2/D65 and disabling or minimising sharpening and other enhancements.

I’m looking at one of these for work (display of slideshow images only).

I accept you get what you pay for but for static bright images it sounds like it will be fine.

Can anyone comment on the image slideshow settings?

I want to be able to display jpg images from a USB stick, on screen time 30s - 1min per image, tasteful transition (pref none, but would accept fade or slide), endless loop, random or in filename order.

Would anyone with the 65” Veon (or another model with the same version software) be able to check this slideshow functionality for me?

The staff in store were unfortunately absolutely no help, and the online manual doesn’t clarify.

Friend tried one and it wouldn't play images at the panel resolution. Neither would their android TV box - it would only do video at 4k.

Ended up with a windows computer doing a 4k slideshow.

The generous 3 year warranty makes it worth it. Just be prepared to replace it anywhere from 12-24 months in. They must be aware of the short life span of these things hence the extended warranty. Mine started having issues about 18 months in. I suspect its the power board. Sometimes it wont even turn on. I'm seeing how long I can ride it out until it fails completely. Then I'll replace it. its under warranty until early 2020. Otherwise when it works it works. If your not fussy its pretty good. And make sure to get a soundbar or something.

Same problem with my 50 inch "AKAI" HDTV purchased back in 2013. Still working great but terrible software and picture at times. I think the problem is actually down to the CODEC implementations if I'm not mistaken, as the panel itself is very good.

The other thing to consider is the terrible builtin speakers of most of these models. For voiceband only they are fine, but there's zero bass below about 300 hz or so. Most of them have PCM out though in one form or another, and the headphone socket works fine at line in levels on most amps. They sound great with a decent external setup, and to my ears the HDMI to analogue audio quality is good and no different to outputting from a pc D/A converter or one in a DVD player.

The old Akais/Veons will sometimes do a slideshow but it seems to depend which firmware version you have, and the Warehouse 'tech support' simply refuse outright to provide any updates or information on them.

On the plus side, if you buy a Veon, factory debug mode is reasonably easy to get into and you can always join others here in collaborating on a firmware modification... (If I ever get around to putting up a blog I had intended to.)

i got a kogan 50inch 4k smart tv for 506.99nzd that includes shipping cost and arrived 2 days after i ordered it and the tv has amazing picture quality out of the box sound is not very good but once you play with the sound setting its quite good

unless you really need a 65inch tv i would not go with this veon tv its not very good

Damn i'm jealous lol. I got mine for $1100 back in May 2017. Jeez. I wonder if a new 2019 model is coming soon and they're trying to clear stock? That seems ridiculously cheap.
