I'm not sure if this is a pricing error as this is the absolute cheapest I've seen this and comes in under the cost of the previous "non-smart" model. Have ordered anyway.

The large Kogan model we bought recently is very disappointing compared to the Philips XL model that broke down a month or so ago - other than the size, which was great.

Not sure I'm quite willing to pay that much for this sensor model (interested in hearing how you find it), but am looking into the more basic version (same size, non sensor) - I've found that for $489 excl shipping plus Philips is doing a $50 cashback on this particular model.

Trying not to derail, but aside from 'get the settings right automatically', what is it about these that makes them $500 more than a basic large air fryer?

While I can’t comment on the contribution the ‘smarts’ of this top-spec model to its performance and whether the premium paid for this part is worth it, I have recent and direct experience of the relative performance of cheap vs Philips air fryers, as indicated in my post above.

While the ‘customer reviews’ of the particular model we bought are generally very positive, our own experience was it was very disappointing when comparing it with the Philips XL it replaced: cooking time is SIGNIFICANTLY longer (I’d guess 50-75%) and the end results simply aren’t as good - eg, home-made wedges were - and this is a fatal sin! - soggy.

(I must say I was a little doubtful when I saw the Kogan was 1800w, despite its gargantuan size; our Philips XL, which was way smaller, was 2000w, and the XXL is 2250w. I’m sure this is a significant factor.)

So, yeah, the (non-smart) Philips XL may be over three times the cost of the Kogan, but if the latter simply cannot deliver a quality and timely output it’s not a good investment.

Moving onto a completely unrelated topic - would anyone like to buy a hardly-used Kogan air fryer?!

First time using it - cooked Fish fillets for lunch.

8min at 180*C from frozen and fish came out perfectly. Other air fryer would take 9+5mins (had to flip the fish).

Cleanup was really easy too. I'm a fan and think that the price is justified vs my previous cheap one.

Auto modes don't work for frozen fish but we do cook quite a lot of fresh fish (Salmon etc) so having that there is great. I ordered the grill set from Amazon AU also.

Good to hear it cooks well, but not surprised given how well the XL worked.

I’ll still go ahead with getting the base XXL model, as it’s identical where it counts (design, power, size) and at $450 after postage and rebate works out $169 cheaper, which is a decent saving.
