Warehouse Stationary has a deal on these - looks like recently discontinued model, but specs are a deal for the price:

HP 11.6 inch G8 Chromebook Education Edition 4GB RAM 32GB eMMC | Warehouse Stationery, NZ

$299 down from $499 and similar models seem to go for $400+ and is has a quad core rather than dual core processors.

Use coupon SASDEC22 for an extra 15% off in checkout (Thanks cheapies Save 5%-15% @ The Warehouse, The Market, Torpedo7, Noel Leeming, Warehouse Stationery & Warehouse Mobile - ChoiceCheapies)

Ooh I need to get one for child starting intermediate school. I know nothing about Chromebooks - anyone got any thoughts on this model. School has said either Chromebook or MacBook. Not Windows , which is my knowledge area.

Well - I just brought one :)

It seems like a fairly standard model to me and saving a bunch of cash is always handy.

This appears to be the model down (dual core proc) for $70 more: https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/NBKHNB110801/HP-Chromebook-11-G8-EE-116-HD-Intel-Celeron-N4020

I have the dual core version. It works great with all the major streaming services and usual internet stuff. I bought it secondhand a few years ago for more than the deal above. Battery life for internet work is like nine hours or something. Mine will get updates until 2027. Insane.

Sorry to be nitpicking but it's bought.

This is a very good deal by the way, my kid's school sells similar ones for about $400.

Stick on the code WELCOME10 with a new user account as well and it comes down to $228.

THANKS!  I have just placed an order. Hopefully it'll do the trick for the boy, and saves me a ton of cash buying a macbook! :)

One of the main things to check is how long it gets updates from Google. In this case:
Chromebook 11 G8 EE Jun 2027

Just confirming this end support date is for the deal posted by the OP here?

If so, that's a fair chunk of time.

Yes, I tried to find the model posted in this deal, but please double check using the link above.

I recently bought a chromebook for the first time and got one with support until 2029. I also came across deals that seemed really cheap but then found out that they only had a year or two of support remaining, so something to watch out for. This deal seems pretty good with ~4.5 years of support.

It arrived this morning - and is almost exactly what I expected.

Only surprise/not fully reading the specs is that it's not a touchscreen.

Personally if I was getting a Chromebook for a child then I'd go for an 64GB / 8GB, especially if the school is using Minecraft Education Edition.

We are talking about completely different levels of device here - ones with that type of spec start at about $700 - 3x the price!

And I hope that device suits you well, I'm sure it will for a lot of people. But its the old story, you get what you pay for.

Mine hasn't even shipped yet, ordered on Monday. :(

Hopefully it won't get cancelled.

Does the device run ok?  no alarm bells or anything about performance?

It turns on and I ran a few browser tabs. It's a xmas present for my 10 year old so didnt really put it through its paces.

The other two we have for my older kids are both lower spec and seem to work fine, so i assume no issues with this one.
