Kinda hardly worth posting, but currently there is 1 in stock at RS, at I think the best price in NZ.

Just heads up, this ships from the UK, but it is pretty quick, about a week till delivery, like they say.

I use one with Frigate. It greatly speeds up people/car etc recognition on security cameras.

Google's site explains what it can do much better: https://coral.ai/examples/

It's amazing tech.

I've been planning on picking one up soon. I think my system will support one of the M.2 ones, which are only $44. Assuming other than the obvious form factor and portability there's no downside in going that route? Big price difference (plus stock not an issue)...

Yeah no clue if the M.2 model is any different functionally. But I will say, the USB one I have get's at fairly warm to the touch, quite probably quite warm come summer, so idk if cooling will be something you'll want to look at. (like you do for high performance RAM or SSDs)

Thanks for posting.  This will be perfect for my project to build an autonomous weed sprayer for lawns (which is currently going badly).

Interesting. If you can get it to work reliably, that would be pretty cool automation.

I've had the M.2 variant in my QNAP NAS for a few months, using it with Frigate. Haven't had any issues.

Ohhh. I think this is going to send me down a rabbit hole. This might be something I need to look in the future with setting up my own security camera recording system. When I get some time. And some money. Medium to long term aspirations haha.

Highly recommend Frigate, it's super flexible, and with the TPU its detection is amazing. (better then our hikvision built in detection by a long shot)

The hardest part (for me) was finding a camera that would last and output good quality.

Good luck to you sir.

+1 for recommending Frigate. I've recently set it up, with two outdoor cameras. One cheap one from Aliexpress, and a Reolink one. Got motion detection on the Reolink and it works fine CPU based. It sometimes seems to miss motion though or it starts too late. So far happy with it, and definitely not expensive.

Got it installed on a RPI alongside Home Assistant, Pihole and and *arr stack, still performs well.

As a backup, I'm recording the Reolink 24/7 using QNAP QVR Elite, and the Aliexpress records to SD card.

The Google Coral is very hard to come by. Unfortunately it's sold out again :(

I mean, PB has them in stock local... but at $210... it's not really such a good deal.

Ah yeah, seen that, but I'm not willing to pay that amount, if Google advertises it for US$60.

The original deal of NZ$120 shipped was pretty good.

Yep, if this topic stays open long enough I'll post a reply once RS is back in stock. Sometimes they get small bits of stock before there public ETA.

I've looked around a fair bit and RS seems to be the best price for NZ.

Just a heads up, they're back in stock. About 700 of them. At $122.54 NZD now 🙌
