New thread for the coming 2025 F1 Season

With similar regulations to 2024, and a very close 2024 constructors championship, 2025 could see several teams competitive right from the start.

2024 was almost unprecedented in terms of many varied teams and drivers winning races throughout. What will 2025 bring?!

Excellent work after your tardy 2024 effort earlier this year, Jaxson! ;)

Potential to be an outstanding year from a Kiwi perspective in 2025. Hopefully Liam can make every post a winner and Red Bull provide him with a rocket ship with which to belt Norris, Leclerc, Piastri, Russell and Hamilton repeatedly. And, that he isn't shafted by the summer break.

Not to forget Louis Sharp commencing his F1TV journey in F3 so we can watch his progress live each round. Hope he also has an outstanding season so we can start early talks about his path into an F1 seat.

Imagine two Kiwi drivers on the F1 grid in a few years, dare to dream!

Here's hoping for at least a couple of 1-2 grid placings for RB and Lawson to pick up enough points to not get shafted by Horner and Co.

A win would be nice, but maybe not this season...

Liam has not driven in many of the F1 tracks and he's never driven an F1 car around most of the F1 tracks.

Don't hold your breath!

Whoa, don't push that boat out too far Batman!

I predict Lawson to have podiumed by Round 10.

Speaking of which, I see he will be making an appearance at Historic GP weekend in Taupo 10-12 January. Meet and greets and autographs for all apparently. A little surprised he hasn't returned to work in Milton Keynes by then but good for the NZ fans I guess.

I know my brother is going, wondering if I shouldn't get the TT out and shoot through to Taupo for a look as well, an early birthday treat for myself. Did take nearly three hours to get across the Napier-Taupo earlier this year though which is putting me off, sitting at bloody stop-go's so long after Cyclone Gabrielle is pretty hopeless.

I can see it. Other cars caught up to RBR, they wont progress much more. In fact the other 3 top teams have their own issues on some tracks. That being the case, top 4 will all be close, so Liam has a chance if on any given track RBR is tops. RBR should improve a bit. Annecdotally, from what I recall in F2, quali wasn't his strong suit. Effectively hes racing only 7 others. A 1-2 podium in AUS would really rock and insulate him somewhat from the expected I told you so, when he makes a mistake. As long as he is not a Checo 8th, in his first 6 races

His one-lap pace has always been an issue for him, a fact that has already been highlighted extensively by his detractors. In Super Formula he only qualified on pole once, in the very last of nine rounds. He also had two 2nd's and two 3rd's in qualifying, driving the best car on the grid.

Making it to Q3 every round needs to be the absolute minimum for him, given there are probably only four good teams at the outset of 2025. If drivers like Gasly, Tsunoda, Hulkenberg, Alonso are besting him in qualification, that would be bad for his long term survival. Tsunoda is going to be singularly motivated to beat him at every opportunity.

Think Liam can do it, but I sure hope the RB21 is quick. Red Bull are saying the car will be an "evolution" of the RB20, believing there is not much to be gained in a massive redesign when this will be the last season of these regs. As I mentioned earlier, I hope he is getting across to England ASAP and getting as much time in the simulator as is humanly possible. This is his big-time break, he can't do too much prep leading into pre-season testing.

My pick is Kimi to win the Driver's Title. Finally Mercedes will provide a ground effect championship winning car!

Yeah I’m not seeing George as leading driver material of a team that big yet.
That said Lando has done it at McLaren.

I've watched F1 for a long time. Same story every race. Get to the first corner first, you win.

F1 is a simple game. 20 cars go round in circles and Lewis Max always wins.

I think some cars will attempt to go around in a circle in single file and some drivers will complain about other drivers.

until they start letting other manufacturers and teams join and leave at will, I don’t really see anything changing.

I’ve long since changed over to F1 Academy and Word Endurance.  What I like about the latter, apart from the commentators (who keep everyone up to date with the gossip rules) is that the teams and drivers get involved with the fans, there is a lot of in car footage as well.  Also, the fact there are multiple classes and senior drivers are matched with junior drivers.

one to watch this year will be Valentino Rossi, I think this year he may just contend LMGT3 with BMW M Team WRT.  Last year he also did GT.   I saw his hyper-car tryout on youtube and it was quite good.

of course, it will still be Iron Dames for me :)

Interesting and fairly sensible changes in the order of races, Asia Pacific consolidated up front, races in the Middle East grouped together, European races largely grouped together... Miami and Montreal positions still don't make a lot of sense.
