CC would have become legendary had a bald guy not shut him out of the black jersey and made him play for the Maori. heck there were so many Maori I didn't know were Maori during the reign of Mr Mitchell!

Mitchell nearly ruined NZ Rugby. He kept the AB's from the adoring public, and Graham Henry did a fantastic job reinstating them as our heros by making sure we saw lots of them, not just on the field but at events, charities, promotional events.

He made them accessible, accountable and proud to be All Blacks.

Glad i didn't shell out hundreds of dollars to take the family to the first All Blacks test of the year. What a fizzer! I learnt my lesson last year when a rusty AB team just managed to overcome the French.
Credit is due to a spirited English team, that the media called a B side, for not allowing the AB'S to find a rhythm. Still, an ugly win is better than a magnificent loss. However, there were moments of skill, but way too many handling errors.
I expect a much improved game next weekend indoors in Dunedin. Hopefully Read is well enough to play in that match.

I think if the Ben Smith was yellow carded appropriately England might have won. Instead, the English player committed the same offense as Ben Smith, and got the card which should have been Ben's a few minutes earlier. Oh well ... as they say ... it's just a game

I was surprised at this as well. Not the best I have seen the AB's play, but as I commented in another thread, the AB's tend to play at the level of the team that they play. I would expect next week the AB's should run away to a comfortable win.

I was rooting for the Poms this time as it would have made the ABs sit up and take notice. I think they're a bit complacent in not having lost for well over a year..

That might be the strangest thing I've heard in a long time. What they achieved last year was simply amazing and they ARE the best team in the world and long may it last. Wishing they lose to "teach them a lesson" seems bizarre.

In the second test last night Australia played well, though other than the first 10 minutes, the French were terrible, hard to believe that team could take the AB's to within 1 point in a WC Final!

ah the French. you don't have to win every match for 4 years to be WC runner up. you just have to beat whoever's in front of you for 10 days.

what people don't realise is, had halfpenny's 50m penalty from in front cleared the bar, the welsh would have probably beaten the ABs in the final

that is a very odd thing to say, since it isn't true at all.
If anything the ABs tend to play at a level far about their opposition, only occasionally having a bad game where they win by a small margin (like this one), or, on very rare occasions, lose.

Does anybody else cringe when Ma'a Nonu starts? I know he's one of the more experienced players out there in fact he's probably our most experienced ball dropper and he's pretty well seasoned at botched passes and getting yellow carded as well.

You are trolling with the second paragraph right? You remind me of that guy from the NZ Herald that (seemingly) purposefully writes articles bagging sports teams/people... except you are not trying to sell newspapers?!

There is no doubt Wales could have beaten NZ if they had have been good enough to get through to the final, but given they have only ever beaten NZ 3 times after 110 years of trying, to say they would probably beat us and in doing so get their first ever win vs NZ outside Wales and their first win against NZ in 60 years goes beyond reason (did you watch the ABs vs Australia the week before?)

You are right about the RWC though - you just have to beat what is put in front of you for a few weeks. Lots of teams are capable of beating the ABs on their day, no doubt about that. We do have excellent skill and a high fitness level, and we are able to play at a high level pretty much every game (except vs England on Saturday - but even when we were playing crap we managed to scrape a win), but if a good team plays to their potential and we are not at our best we are vulnerable.

I personally think we would much rather play Wales (or pretty much any other team for that matter) than France in a RWC final, so we would have welcomed it had Wales beaten France.

I personally feel nobody was beating us in that RWC final. And I agree NZ would rather be playing Wales than France.
