I agree, but I dont compare to rugby. All Blacks have the same body parts as Wallabies, same team size, same number of boots. Same with Federer, etc

F1 is a car race, the cars arent the same, but its a Constructors title the Drivers is just a minor extra but to fans the THE title. If they see it losing popularity, all they do is artificially try to make cars race closer. Its really a car design comp

I dunno what can be done. If you made it like MotoGP where the bikes are closer and skill matters more, or the bikes are the same so skill is everything that will help but then it wont be F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport

Most drivers on the grid can win the title if they drive that car. So its Lewis vs Valterri

Yeah the rugby thing is more aligned with the general impact on sport when one team dominates.

Plus I think rugby as a sport gets less exciting the closer matched the teams are, so the opposite of F1.
- It becomes all thud and grind rather than exciting and flashy play when a team can find holes in defence easily.

Next year the rules are essentially the same, so expect more of ... the same.

There will be a large number of past F1 champions racing together again, but that won't change anything when you have a pair of cars that far ahead.

Heck the rising challengers this year look to be straight pink copies of last years Mercedes, so we may soon be looking at Mercedes 1,2,3 & 4.

There are other bits to enjoy, and the Netflix drive to survive covid ;) series highlighted some of the less covered aspects.

The payout system is bonkers and I'm not sure how easily they can police a funding cap, so those with deep pockets will always do well, but entering at the ground level is insanely expensive with little chance of survival.

Ferrari doing as bad as they are, with their own payment budget, is just nuts.

They really need to do something dramatic. Formula One has been stuck for some time, mainly down to aero. All the drivers and teams scoff at reverse grids, but it should be an option if they can't get on top of aero. I'm not sure what that would do to qualifying, quash it probably. But Chainbear on YouTube has a good video on positive and negative feedback loops in sports. Perhaps add ballast like they did in BTCC years ago, winning cars get more and more weight added, or allow lower teams to use more fuel etc. I'm trying to think if MotoGP had different fuel limits for teams awhile back or not.

There has to be some kind of incentive or assistance for a low performing team. With the exception of Haas (and possibly Brawn, which was really a works Honda), very few teams do well first up.

I say nothing will change, its a manufacturers series. All they could do is have a second series in parallel, same cars with the F1 drivers, but when that becomes exciting as it would, F1 falls off the planet.

You can change rules but the best car will dominate. The best drivers will continue to be spread around the grid, not based on talent

Me, I don't expect any different so I'm not interested in Mercedes, I watch the others fight for places

He'll be quite physically distanced in a race car. Just don't crash.

Looking forward to tonight. The commentators are so annoying. Could Mercedes get a 1-2?   Check Geekzone, we will tell you thats locked in years ago

Hope Hulk does well, and Lando. Next weekend, also at Silverstone they predict warmer weather, thats good. Weird that Ferrari are up there, despite their woes. Should be a good race, auto delete the Merc race, not relevant.

I wish they turn down the volume and pitch of Crofty. He's like a broken jet engine whining in my ears.

Yep they are English but yeah, I'd heard a couple of time that Lewis is great. Three actually...

General snooze fest of a race until the last 4 or so laps.   Quite a difference being at some race tracks out of season, and in this case a lot hotter than normal.

Borderline got me wondering at what stage you black flag a car for being dangerous, when the tyre is clearly delaminating and cornering is noticeably impacted.

I think the commentators commented on the same thing but came to the conclusion with Hamilton's at least that the tire carcass hadn't actually come away from the wheel area... but we see it all the time with tires and carcasses flapping around and they don't do anything... I'd imagine as long as they're making it towards the pit (or in today's case, towards the flag) that they wouldn't consider it unsafe unless it was destroying tons of body work like Le Clerk's did in Austria.

Yeah last lap so probably acceptable to let it run it's own course, but we've seen race directors force a pit for a component deemed unsafe before.

Total roll of the dice thereby many teams, and it worked for some and not for others.

This really is a way we could potentially introduce some action, by ensuring tyres simply can't last a whole race.  You either go brave and hopeful then or pit and ensure you've got good rubber underneath you.

It should make next week's race much more interesting: next week's 'Hard' tyre will be this week's 'Medium', next week's 'Medium' will be this week's 'Soft' and next week's 'Soft' will be one step softer.
A one-stop strategy would be very dicey indeed, so things should be quite mixed up - although probably still one race between Hamilton & Bottas and another race between all the rest

Dunno what they say they may review the tyres next race. Same if its wet and you spin, you went too fast. If you leave tyres on too long, on a high wear track, they break. Its not a safety issue. With using last weekend data for this weekend, the midfield should be tighter. Two stops, should be an ok race. 3 stop may well be an option if they can save them up
