mdf: I've not heard any suggestion that it's illegal. Though with F1 you never really know.

Never happen lol

Red Bull double diffuser...

Ferrari injecting oil for a pre ignition to make ignition more efficient...

6 wheeled F1 cars, adjustable suspension...

The list goes on. But on a serious note, I would assume the regs are policed. The car design is open, you can see it, there are stewards that vet the car. Ferrari the oil issue, found to be illegal, just told to stop it, but it wasnt visible. Mercedes wise they made an awesome powerplant, although oddly, it benefitted them far more than any Mercedes powered team...

While I take my hat off to all the above, its innovation and creativity, todays RBR is just a well made car, not great in anything, but 9/10 in everything, and as a fan thats pretty cool. Its not a world beater in quali, not No.1 in the speedtraps, its powerplant doesnt pull the most horsepower, but overall its very good. The other teams have their own weaknesses which they will solve, but no one has 2 seconds per lap to catch up. Like Mercedes, but like the as boring  Schummy Ferrari era they earned it

So that race was a bit of a bore fest for a lot of it.  No where near the number of safety cars I'd expected on a fast tight circuit.

I heard something about highlights being shown on Prime TV, which I hadn't considered.

Assume with the rights being back on Sky TV this is an option now on Prime.  Will look into it.

The RBR is just a masterclass in car design.  Its nimble, sleek and insanely fast.  The aero package with the newey innovations are what really make the car work, the engine just adds to it but really I think most of the engines in the grid would still make it insanely quick.

Love listening to podcasts when that guy is on.  Really insightful.

I thought having quali before sprint quali was a bit silly. And parc ferme so early IMO hurts the lower placed teams rather than the higher placed ones as they are the ones more likely to be struggling with setup etc.

Better way to do it IMO would be: Fri - FP1, SQ, then parc ferme after this.

Sat - Quali, then Sprint

Sun - Race

I agree your weekend order would be a better way to go about things.  I believe the reason they don't do it that way is the value placed on the main race and the desire of teams to "bank" their quali position for that event before they have driven on the edge too much and potentially munted their car or had some kind of technical failure.

Yeah, it's RBR first and daylight second (and frankly third as well at the moment).  I didn't mind the race too much, I like the Baku circuit as a street race compared to some of the manufactured "street" circuits.  Also nice to see Checo give his team-mate something to think about as well.

But, can't see anyone beating the Red Bull cars anytime soon.  I reckon they still have more to give, even if one of Ferrari/Merc/Aston can close the gap a little.  Those three teams are competing for second only in the Championship in 2023.

Another solid outing for the Red Bull machine in Miami.  Seemed like Checo was disadvantaged by the tire strategy with Max getting the order right.

I don't know about you guys but the Miami circuit leaves me cold as a track.  I'm sure the destination adds to the overall experience if you are there in person but, as a race, I don't feel like there's a lot to recommend it.

I know it's a business and it's all about the commercial opportunities in North America and growing the fan base there, but three stops in the USA is too many.

I read an interesting article the other day saying Americans like sports where there is very active efforts to level the field.

F1 isn't doing that to the degree of say Indicar etc, so it may not be as attrative to fans.

Was an interesting perspective.

Race wise it's more of the same.  We're clearly back to one team dominating so that's pretty much the season wrapped up right there now.
Well done to Aston for being a consistent car and driver package with Alonso.

McLaren should start displaying tractor brand advertising sponsorships.

Just finished watching it. 1/2 race, then 1/4 race then the rest tonight. My take is that while strategy worked out for Max, Checo was a few seconds behind, not 30 seconds behind. Reverse of last week. May he fight hard.

McLaren, not sure what to say

Mercedes was poor (ish) but took care of Ferrari.

Alonso, well, unreal. Imagine if he was in Red Bull in their 4 years, or 2014 in Mercedes in their 2 seconds per lap better than anyone else years. The best driver in the last 20 + years, no question.

Just disappointing after all the fuss made about the new design regulations, that we're so quickly back to single team dominance.
The cars do not seem to be able to follow or overtake as much as they could last year, so almost seems like we've gone backwards a bit on some of those intentions.

Agree

New regs mean, no matter what, some teams will nail it, or inadvertently mail it, most others will be ok or far off it. Then the teams will close up as the best teams cannot improve a lot, the other teams will. Then "next year" its a close season, except "next year" there are new regs. Had the 2014 hybrid era been left largely untouched, just tweaked, we would 100% have tight racing now, as the top teams had caught Mercedes

Just about to watch FP1, Mercedes have got rid of the silly non sidepod. New floor, and Red Bull design front suspension

While it wont be known if its just right, it will get tweaked when its out to use, its bound to be a lot better, so all on for 8 driver race weekends.

Not much interest in this thread it seems these days. Quali was fun. Ocon brushed most edges, rewarded. Max similar. Quali could have gone many different ways but was a good watch

Early night, up at 4-30am
