Just started to watch recorded pre race.

Positives: I love J Villineuve being there, tells it like it is. So that gives cover to his attire lol

Negatives: I am so over the Brit Bias. Kimi did well, but its all about George and his issues...  Liam did well but its all about Arvid the next big thing and his issues

Yes they had some issues, but if anyone has an F1 feed via Slovenia, Alaska, or Botswana, please post. At least Jensen isnt there otherwise I'll grab a bucket to sit beside me

If you're on the international/sky sports uk feed then what do you expect?  Its no different to the fawning over Lawson here from NZ media (as a brit) - countries commentary will always comment on thier respective national drivers.  F1TV is more balanced and I've generally switched to that but meh can't stand Coulthard at all.  Would much prefer Alex Brundle or Jenson Button.

Yeah I know, the bias is ridiculous. Last week the start by Lawson wasn’t even mentioned for (can’t remember exactly) but many many laps. Then only way I found out he had a battery issue was off a comment on facebook.

The other annoying thing about coverage is that usually the placing graphics only shows up till after the first lap. Why is it so hard to have this showing from the first split on lap 1….. Enough of sounding like a whining pom though.

Interesting start to the season but at this stage looking like George’s to loose. Although could be very much like last year if Kimi gets consistent.

Im a Liam fan, a Red Bull fan (due to Webber) and a Max fan as he is the best driver. But I dont fawn over anyone. Bias is fine but when its 99% all of the time, no thanks. Give me Brundle and Villeneuve any day. Jenson, never!

Kimi has the most growth potential. I fear he will be the Piastri/Rosberg/Webber of Mercedes. Everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others...

Take Liam vs Lindblad. If Lindblad does better, and earned that, good on him

Not sure how Colapinto got 10% of the drive of the race results 12th to 10thwas fine but i would have thought Lawson going from 14 to 7th was a better performance

Awesome job from Lawson this weekend, he'd have to be pleased with that given he was playing down his chances on Thursday. Top Red Bull driver, kept Hadjar at bay for 20 plus laps. Even better when Shanghai was the scene of the final nail in the coffin with Red Bull twelve months ago. Permane reckoned it was one of his best drives for Racing Bulls, good stuff.

Suzuka in a couple of weeks, plenty of experience and good memories from there for him. Hopefully he can put in another solid showing and go into the enforced break on a high. Most teams would have to be disappointed the race weekends are cancelled, a lot of laps and data they now won't be getting to help development at the start of this rule set. I wonder if the FIA will look at that and allow some extra testing during April to offset the lost races.

McLaren still poor, likewise with Red Bull. Haas and Alpine look solid at the top of the midfield. Surprising points for Sainz. Perez trying to take out his team-mate. Lots of interesting talking points across the grid. Well done Antonelli, made the most of Russell's unreliable car yesterday and converted it to the race win today.

Top drive alright from Liam. It was a slippy slidey race for many, plenty of errors, but he was rock solid. Racing Bulls tied with RBR in the Constructors. Liam is tied 1st in Red Bull Family drivers with Max

Kimi was awesome. Note of a brief quiet 'well done Kimi" from George in the slowdown after the flag. These two will be fun this season. Just a solid drive, or promise of more to come from Kimi?? Methinks the former

Heard a few rumours that Mercedes have much more left in that PU, but are only ramping it up as upgrades from other teams bring them closer. Pacing the championship so to speak.

Wouldn't surprise me... the 2014 reg changes demonstrated that Merc will hold back power to avoid scrutiny if its advantageous and I suspect they do not want to win by enough of a margin to get the engine parity rules called.  Be interesting to see whether the June tests change anything or if the engine is so good that the new compression tests change nothing... easiest observation will be the customer teams like Alpine as they will not have the full integration of the works team but that engine is pushing them along very well.

As a casual observer, I find it amazing that there were so many DNS's or DNF's in this race!

Love the idea that a kid can win a F1 race, though...and loved the fact that Lewis Hamilton didn't want to take anything away from that win, when interviewed post-race. First thing he did was refocus the conversation to Kimi. Class act (despite his fashion choices).

Not sure about some of these outfits...

Let's see what happens from 1 June with the Mercedes.

https://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/articles/cq8g3lqqdvgo

It's quite clear from the first 2 races that they have an advantage.

Whether the rumoured compression ratio is the reason behind the Mercedes advantage, I doubt we'll ever know, as Mercedes will want to be compliant come the 1 June test.

In the meantime, they'll be trying to bank as many points as possible.

But you can’t change your engine?

And even if you could, you rebuild the used engines?

Depends how they're achieving the increased compression.  From memory I'd read they had shaped their pistons/materials to expand in a particular direction when hot.  Presumably others can't copy on short notice that due to the head etc needing to be able to withstand that extra pressure too.  Will be interesting to see how Mercedes do when they are forced to a none compression increase design.

One of those seasons where we're seeing inter team battles because the pecking order between teams is so clear cut.  Makes for internal management headaches.

Well done Liam. Beating the team mate and the rest of the Red Bull group is impressive.

Disturbing seeing those affected drivers falling back at the start like Verstappen.  It is a very dangerous situation.

Good to see Lewis back into a racing mode.  Hoping Ferrari can do something to get up near the Mercedes across a full race distance.  Part of that resides within the pit wall strategy team too.

Personal stuff here, I'd like to see a Toyota hybrid ish style approach, where there are small batteries that can only be charged by deceleration braking, kinetic recovery.  That would get away from current situation of using a petrol engine from charging a battery, which frankly surely undermines the eco nature of it. The battery doesn't last long so we're just seeing some weird energy management situation going on, where drivers give up speed to route engine power to charging a battery at another more strategic point later.

Coupled with active aero, boost and overtake options, it's genuinely confusing this year and does have a real Mario kart vibe to it all.  V10 or V12 with a 10% boost from a braking recovery battery available whenever they want to use it.

Also the audio feed mixing seems quite weird this year.  had to play with the stereo settings to get a surround mode I could hear the commentators better on yesterday.  Gave up on the international feed last race as the car audio was much too loud to really hear the commentary, so switched back to F1TV.
