Dochart: It’s embarrassing to see that the wickets are starting to fall in NZ innings when Bangladesh batted almost 2 days. It’s strange to see a subcontinent side bat for 2 days in New Zealand. Happens very rarely. I think last time before this was when Sri Lanka batted in Wellington and it ended up being a draw.

Yeah its a weird one. NZC were sold this was 3 days of Green, clearly 1st day was good for bowling, but NZ didnt look in trouble until #6 onward, was looking like the usual 450ish score. 330ish was just not good enough even on greenery.

Then it dried into concrete day 2-3 which was largely Bangladesh innings, but NZ still created enough oppurtunities to take 20+ wickets, some of them were very costly, the dropped catches, Wagner NB LBW and not reviewing the LBW Ump mistake directly cost NZ ~200 runs. But nonetheless what Bangers did that NZ didnt, was put partnerships of substance together, all the way through. That is what dissapointed me about NZ, was Blundell, Rachin, Jamo and even Southee, not hanging in there for Nicholls and each other.

And thats where Im most worried, Blundell doesnt inspire confidence in me, Rachin is yet to deliver and to be fair is an opener not a 7 and Jamo is an all rounder which you would expect to be hit and miss.

Latham was caught out by the bounce playing a ball on a line that you would expect the best opener in the world in recent years not to play regardless of the irregular bounce.

Conway was just typical for him, he does get out with that kind of delivery a lot, but it was the fact that he edged it and it carried, very rarely will you get struck that hard front on and it carry to slip. I was with Grant Elliot, I thought they were reviewing an LBW, I didnt even see that it had been caught as you just wouldnt expect that being wrapped so hard on the pad, even the top. So was kind of typical but also a bit odd, cant expect him to avg 80 forever.

So NZ had the green wicket and now have the irrgegular bounce wicket, Bangers had the flat track, which in itself is the toss of a coin. But regardless you would expect A. NZ to have dismissed Bangers for sub 300 with the amount of oppurtunities they created B. They should have put on more than 70 for the last 5 wickets as WTC.

I honestly think Watling is the most disruptive loss, IMO its cost us a number of those Banger wickets and its also seen us not have the anchor in the mid-tail.

I still expect NZ to draw this, Im more worried about our future when we take on real gun sides. We need more solidity at 6 and 7. Hopefully Rachin delivers, hopefully Blundell improves both sides of his game immediately.

Partnerships to #8/9 and we should be ok. If we bat until Lunch tomorrow it should be a draw. But somebody needs a ton, and we need a bunch of 50s.

Lastly a number of these Banger players are from the u19 world champ side, so its actually pleasing to see imo, they have been the bottom for too long.

Looks like Joy is out for Bang, either broken finger or possibly webbing type injury. A shame as he was good. Hopefully not as serious as the sling and splint fingers look.

Lol Taskin burns through the reviews, that was probably the worst review I have ever seen, straight bat, hits the middle of it, and even if he could swap it with a leg it was outside line and looking to miss off. He is the Southee of the Bangers bahaha. Oh man, that would suck if their luck starts running out and they need a review to win the match.

NZ have gone the other way not reviewing plum lbw howlers.

This is better, just hope once we get to even score and if they do decide to put the foot down this evening and tomorrow morning, the whole team contributes. 8 wickets in hand you would expect 160 minimum. They could if they went t20 on it, be 200 in front by lunch. Giving ~50 overs to bowl Bangers out, which I firmly believe if they get a rock that swung like the first and 3rd one they could do it, sure, highly unlikely, but through the air there isnt a better bowling squad in the world.

The offy and part time spinners will get targeted to leg Im pretty sure of that.

I almost forgot that some players in the Bangladesh team won the U19 WC back in 2020. Joy and Shoriful. Not sure if there are any Bangladesh players that I’m missing.

I think Ebadot too. Not sure about Taskin age without looking.

About 15 overs to go in the day, its time NZ put the foot down. 5rpo, lead of 80 by close of play. If no wickets down go at it ODI 6-7rpo, 200-240 with about 60 overs, is a teaser score but also defendable. So NZ given the swing, if they get a swinging rock, imo can still win this, but will take a LOT of positive intent. I cant see them losing from here, but really need to win almost all home games, draw this and need to pick up a win elsewhere for the WTC (ie 3-0 in Eng, or 2-0 vs Pak). Especially if you get a wash out draw which can happen in NZ quite easily.

Should have had those tests that we played in England be part of this cycle test championship.

Young and Conway so far have put in good performances but I’m starting to worry about Latham as he hasn’t really contributed with the bat in a very long time in tests.

Do you think Latham needs to be dropped for someone else?

Well we have them 4 series in a row, and given how they looking in Aus, I fancy our chances of a 5th series (3rd in Eng) in a row.

Dang Young, that was not the ball to progress the game on, I guess he was expecting it to get up a bit more, but hes been sooooo good in front foot defense.

Oh Nicholls, needed more.

No point blocking Blundell, you need to score still, or as per the last recent innings one will have your name on it, as does Rachin, cant have 4 openers in the team and 2 of them not scoring at 6 and 7.

Really missing a real middle order batsman at 6 and IMO potentially another batsman keeper.

Obviously missing Williamson but lose Taylor soon and we should be better than this.

Well thats a 15 mins NZ will be ruing. 3 wickets.

Bangers young pacemen have been very impressive.

Now a draw is looking very long way away.

How is this pitch deteriorating to the point NZ are losing wickets.

Good game Bangladesh. You played way better than us considering they are use to subcontinent pitches.

It’s embarrassing when Bangladesh fast/swing bowlers play better than the NZ bowlers.

If we can get at least 200 lead by lunch tomorrow NZ still have a chance at winning but with those lost of wickets in quick succession is most likely going to lead to a Bangladesh win if we continue to lose wickets.

I really hope Taylor and Ravindra can continue to bat till lunch tomorrow.

What amazes me is Ebadot averaging I think 80 at SR100 with the ball, hes bowled 1000x better than those stats today.

Thinking about the Blundell and Ravindra connundrum.

If Young was asked to go away and turn himself into an opener, Blundell then moved to 6, and Ravindra who is an opener is at 7.

They could push Young to 5, Nicholls to 6, Cleaver to 7 and Ravindra to open. Im sure young would have no issue going back to middle order. I guess it just depends whether they think Ravindra is a blocking opener or if he can become a #4.

1. Latham 2. Ravindra 3. Williamson 4. Conway 5.Young 6. Nicholls 7 Cleaver 8. KJ (all rounder)

Only issue there is, expecting Ravindra to be the part timer and open the bat, but hes done it all the way through. Anyway that looks a lot stronger to me. Then drop Nicholls for AJ and move Cleaver and KJ down one when wanting to play Ajaz.

The next test series NZ play we need to pick a different XI.

This is who I would like to see play. If Williamson can’t play the series vs SA due to elbow issues then I think Chapman should be given a chance at batting at No 4.

1. Latham
2. Young
3. Williamson
4. Conway
5. Philips
6. Mitchell
7. Cleaver (wk)
8. Jamieson
9. Southee
10. Wagner
11. Boult

Well if Ravindra and Ross can get some support, they should get to Lunch, but prob only another 60 runs, so for me, id get to lunch 80 ahead if I can. Then go as fast as possible in the 2nd session, set about 160 with 10ov before tea, leaving 40 overs and 160 runs. That is about as optimistic as you can get it haha.

More than likely they will just try to play the normal game for 2 sessions without being cleaned up.
