Can't agree with this from Ted

Analysis from Sky Sports F1's Ted Kravitz, in Bahrain

"It's going to be very difficult for George but he's an expert on a Saturday, so I would reckon top four in qualifying would be a very good result for him - he should be near enough the Red Bulls. Again, in the race, top four would be very good, a podium would perhaps be expected in the car he's driving.

Russell is an excellent driver, there is no reason why he isn't part of the usual 1-2 quali and race, if incident free. Mercedes wins because its Mercedes not because of the drivers, and Russell, like any top line F1 driver is not a gulf away from Hamilton. Three practice sessions will get him as familiar as he needs to be. The race will be interesting as Max outdrives his car, Russell should bring the Mercedes a bit closer to him in race trim

There's also the aspect that the cars are tweaked to suit the primary drivers preferred driving style.
If you don't happen to align with that then you have to hope you can get the setup right.

Hulk did really well dropping into another car and did really well in qualifying and race.
I'm keen to see what this guy could do, switching from the back of the grid to the front.

Re Haas, they're running Ferrari engines, and therefore have had a sht season, just like Ferrari.
Some rules are changing 2021 but not the main changes that have been delayed to 2022 due to Covid response.
Haas have also said they're only developing their 2021 car until Jan 2021 and then switching everything to 2022.
No point developing a car that's only around for a few more months, instead of the future.

Next year will be an into only for Schumacher, who is said to be on a multi year contract with Haas, battling with Williams and Ferrari initially.
Hope he doesn't come off looking like vankers too much, and the press are respectful.

Remains to be seen if Mazepin is more than a pay driver.
Son of a Russian billionaire is always going to raise eyebrows.

Not sure what he wants. The tyres got worse. Worse than what? Does he want them to have more grip than an UltraSoft and last 70 laps? They overheat? On every car? If I had my way the tyres would wear evenly and last 8 laps for an US 20 laps for a Soft and 30 laps for a Hard. Or a combo that forced regular pitstops

if you mount tyres so that f1 cars look like boyracer cars, they don't grip as well as the current ones coz they can't deform as much to hug the road

this therefore decreases mechanical grip and increases the emphasis on aero grip

this therefore decreases overtaking chances and the fans don't watch

etc

etc

etc

Dunno. The current ones are bad. Its like when the all go out on a green track for FP1, everyone whining that they have no grip. As M Brundle would say, you are driving too fast. Do we want them to be driving on rails?

George Russell tops fp1 and fp2

The merc must be a computer game cheat code equivalent or something.

I don't think he'll take pole or win the GP though as it takes more than a cheat code to do it, experience luck etc etc

Discussions should really take off if he does well.

Bottas has a wealth of experience in the same car and racing at the front.

Takes the gloss off Hamilton if anyone else can jump in his car and win a race, shows it's more about the car than the driver.

Race is on at a time that is more NZ friendly than normal.

6:10am Monday morning suits me just fine thanks.

Been saying that for years! Sure Lewis is a great driver, but he's one of many.

Haven't watched FP2. I watched every second of FP1 coverage as its worth watching. Anthony Davidson reckons top 6 for Russell. Russell is excellent. Allowing for getting used to a new car, a car thats far superior to what his brain is used to, and braking points and corner speed is so much different. Yet he is up there. May or may not be true but Bottas seemed ragged at times. I heard he had an issue, but he is under immense pressure. Unless he can keep Russell 6/10th away, he is under pressure. Bottas is very close to Hamilton, very close, but a couple of smidgens behind. Russell might well match Bottas. What then?

Id expect that Russell has every show of pole, but if he did 10 hot laps Bottas would have a higher average as he is in sync with the car, but Russell has the raw pace.

Cheat code? You're funny.

He has done great. Less than 1/50th of a second. Noted that they didnt seem to talk or anything after quali. Maybe Bottas was miffed, maybe Russell didn't want to say well done, as its a negative result for Bottas to get pole that tightly. Bottas said not a very good qualifying. Not sure what went wrong but has to say that, he needed to be dominant, the senior figure over a rushed in teammate. Needed to be 2/10 ahead here, thats 3/10 elsewhere, then its a "I'm a bit too good" result for Valterri.

I expect Bottas to be better in the race, but Russell will go for it.

I've always thought of Russell as an amazing driver and certainly the most talented of the young up and coming drivers - the fact Mercedes signed him up and wouldn't let him go completely clearly shows they believe he has massive talent. There was talk they wanted him to replace Bottas next year but Williams wouldn't give him up.
