SBW really put his hand up for his AB's jersey, and I imagine that is what will not happen.

Why not? I ask mainly as I don't follow rugby as close as most here

Typo? Or just bad England ;)

You think @networkn meant "I imagine that is what will happen. "

SBW was always getting a jersey. The question was whether or not he will start.

You know, if you look at the team they picked for the Lions against the Blues, with all due respect to the talent at the Blues, you could well imagine a 50 point hiding being given to the Blues. I am glad I am not out there!

If both teams play to their potential, I expect a pretty healthy contest for 55 minutes then I would expect the Lions should just Overpower the blues, esp up front.

Of course, as we have already seen, that may not be the case.

I recall when Ireland played the Crusaders a few years ago, I expected a close match, but in fact the Crusaders played so badly, I was embarassed. In reality it was simply a case of the pressure put on by a test match side.

Well I won't be following your picks anytime soon :p

Stoked for the Blues...and the Lions will be well worried given the Crusaders on Sat and the ABs to follow not long after.

Loving the Lions tour so far :)

I knew someone would say something. READ AGAIN. I said if both teams played to their potential. It's a joke to suggest that these internationals played anywhere near the way they have been all season at home. They did take the Blues up front, and when they did that, they easily made the gain line, but they didn't have anything happening out wide. They don't look cohesive really, lots of misunderstandings and unfamiliarity for sure. They better fix that and quick.

I thought the 2 BIL Locks were outstanding, into everything. We need to watch for them in the tests I think. Courtney Laws especially. If he had better support and if his halfback was quicker and slightly deeper with his passes it might have been a better game outcome.

While I feel that overall, BIL is not as good as what I expected, learning from videos post game will add a lot to them. Small improvements, example as you suggest, would tighten their game a lot. As with any top teir sport, there isn't a lot between them all, its the small top % of play execution that matters. Plus, they, being a non gelled team, have more to gain to get to their level than any team they will face. Maybe they look not great through the series but wind up more to the end

By my figuring the Crusaders game will be the zenith of the Super games. Not just because they are the top team, but I fear that once the ABs are named and go into camp, the Hurricanes, Highlanders and Chiefs will be gutted, losing all their best players.
The Hurricanes without the Saveas, the Barretts, Perenara, etc.
The Highlanders without the Smiths, Fekitoa, Sopoaga, Naholo, etc.
The Chiefs without Rettallick, Messam, Cane, Kerr-Barlow, Cruden, Leinert-Brown, McKenzie, etc.
While not all the above are shoo-ins for selection, they do form the backbone of each team. There are others I haven't mentioned but the impact on their Super teams are still just as great.

Something I was thinking about last night while watching the game was that it is a pity that there is no day games on the Lions tour.

And how there is the potential that all 3 or at least 2 of the tests are most likely to be rain affected.

Glad to see Laumape in the squad. His wrecking ball runs could play havoc with the Lions backline if he gets the chance.

I really enjoying being able to select the British commentators on the sky coverage.
Less talking more intelligent discussion points.

Matt Todd is so unlucky not to be included. He has been the better fetcher this year, but I can see why they went with the 2 they did. Awesome that Jack Goodhue made Injury cover. Damien McKenzie over Jordie Barrett, I wonder how much of that was DM eligibility for MAB. Surprised to see Dane Coles selected when even SH said it was unlikely he plays. Agree on Fekitoa being left out in favour of say Laumapi. The difference in form was pretty obvious, and MF hasn't really developed his game. He is for me, pretty one dimensional. Was interested Cruden and TKB were selected given they are heading overseas and Luatua missed out despite being in better form than either of them and is also going overseas. Bit of a double standard there. I guess experience will play a part, I think there is a bit of a gap in 10's between those selected vs those not and same in half back. Mo'unga can't be far off contention though I think.

All about the money.
Wet seats outnumber dry ones.

We could have had one of the tests in Dunedin. Guaranteed to be dry there.
