So if current weather observations I'm looking at are correct then the westerly has just arrived, there's about 8+ knots of wind, that should strengthen slightly and shift more SW over the next 4 hours.

Racing should be on time, they should be able to complete both.

We could see the match point race today.

I'm in the difficult position of enjoying the racing happy for a few days more, but wanting ETNZ to wrap this up before Jimmy finds something tricky to beat us with :)

I'd be surprised if he doesn't come out with some new tricks today.

Wind seems to be filling in.  It's all on from the look of things. (Hope I don't have to eat my words).

~20kmh/11 knots at the moment (Akl Central and bridge gauges).

The thing is, I know logically, it wasn't Jimmy that won against Barker (other than mind games) it was a concerted effort and probably had only a relatively small amount to do with him, but he was the face of it.

I also know, that Burling had the measure of him last time around, pretty comfortably. I'll still never forget 2013 though. I recall thinking at the time, it was "no big deal if he gets 1, or 2 races".

Surely still possibly one of sporting's greatest comebacks (or greatest chokes, depending which way you look at it). And I remember the light wind race that we nearly won, I think it was 8-3 at the time? But we ran out of time. It started off being 'nah this is fine, no worries' and every day, we started getting more and more worried, then it was 8 a piece somehow...gives me shivers haha.

It was in my mind the greatest in my (adult) lifetime and like you said, choke or comeback depends on point of view. I think it was a bit of both. I still to this day think it was pretty unfair that we would have certainly won if they hadn't ended the race due to time. I know rules are rules and all that, but it was pretty obvious who would have won, and a fairer outcome would have been whoever was in front as time ended.

The boat went from being unstable to sailing smoothly around the course winning races. It definitely wasn't mind games. They changed something fundamental in how that boat operated.

Iirc we lost every start after going 8-0 up.

Yep - think we had already got basically max potential out of our boat, they had the better package but couldn't sail it.... somehow in those days off they managed to pull off something. Would love to know what actually went on behind the scenes there.

Iirc they got a new part designed by a group of kiwis, made in Auckland and flown out during the rest period and that new part transformed the boat. But they still did win all the starts cos we choked the starts which didn't help.

There was quite a lot of (retrospective) anger around this because we didn't have to grant their rest day request.

Whispers claim that Dalton agreed because he wanted time for the sponsors to fly out for the final and winning race (famous last words).  He denies this was the case, although I don't think he has offered an alternative explanation

Have they given official wind speeds on the course yet?

Bean rock (off North Head) is reporting >16 knots constant, 20 knot gusts.

Should be spectacular if that's what they're going to get.

Currently its Light winds 11km/h W
Gusts 19km/h

6.5 Knots is 12kph

Hopefully it will build, even with a 30 minute delay to help. This is North Shore via MetService

Bean Rock light is at the S boundary in the middle of course (C), but the anemometer is probably at or near the top of the lighthouse tower.

Postponed start - they're shifting the course because of wind direction.  "12 knots or a little bit more" is the comment I just heard.
