He has mentioned retirement and he has no 2021 contract, I assume as he wants a one year to win the 8th, but extend if he doesn't. George Russell in 2022 replacing either one. It will be bold to replace Bottas for 2021, but it could happen
Having Toto as your manager is a massive advantage, Toto will have control of the Mercedes budgets, the hiring decisions, he also controls the engine supply agreements to Williams. He will know exactly what it will cost to put Russell in a seat.
"But after Bottas came home eighth after a disastrous evening for Mercedes, and having been largely outperformed in the race by Russell, his Team Principal Toto Wolff admitted that he’d been left less than impressed by the Finn’s showing in Bahrain."
Any other time, the comment about the less than stellar race would be met with predictable generic excuses. Wasn't happy with the setup, etc, etc. Quite odd to see Toto hang him out to dry. Reading between the lines, Bottas is out for 2021, spend a year with Williams, seat "may" be open in 2022 with George Russell. And that will be as wingman again. What Bottas offers is he is fast and he's quiet.
"But it was telling that Racing Point driver Sergio Perez was then able to win the race on hard tyres that were actually two laps older than Bottas’, a fact that the Finn’s race engineer Riccardo Musconi pointedly made after the race"
Makes it even worse. I think he got rattled by Russell's speed, and that played out during the race. No.1 driver being outrun by the No.2 new kid
🤔 Bottas has removed all mercedes references from his ig bio...
Would they swap Russell into the Mercedes seat and Bottas into the Williams seat?....... Bottas wouldn't be happy about it but then it would be the only seat going for 2021 he will have the contractual advantage so wont be out of pocket so to speak but that means stuff all when you want to go racing.
Russell will be gagging for another race this weekend in the Merc and Bottas will be hoping Lewis gets back in time so normal service can resume.
Am I the only one who can see a Rosberg vs. Hamilton situation arising if they put another quick driver in the second Merc?

Hamilton always has good luck. If Rosberg didn't have worse luck he'd win more than one title. But some might say you make your own luck - Hamilton is very talkative and demands things from the pit.
I'd say bring it on. If George has the goods we will see it. Though it's unlikely George will beat Lewis in the first season. THere are a lot more thnigs to learn and do than to push the pedals.

I dunno, but what I DO KNOW is that F1 is a Constructors Championship. The points get the revenue. Valterri was and is a top line driver. he is close to Lewis, and it seems he is close to George. We all know the best combo for 2021. The 7 time champ being pushed and the "a star is born" having the best target. Yes, 2021 it has to be, from a Constructors perspective.

Yes and No. Hamilton vs Rosberg where the latter was No.2 and treated like No.2 (not bad for a No.2 driver = Webber), was an issue. Bottas has conceded. He IS the wingman, he knows it. Lewis is a marketing tool. Thats business. Russell wont concede. With Hamilton's achievements and Russell the future, its open slather, although I can see a "lets give Lewis No.8 this yeah, ok? yes, ok"

Rosberg didn't have good luck. Bottas doest have good luck. I remember the race when Rosberg was in front, told to box early, ended up 7 seconds behind lewis "How did that happen?" Seen it all before, but more nuance than the short track Indy race where Rubens pulled over to lose by 3 feet. M Schumacher and L Hamilton are marketing dreams
thanks
Lawson and Armstrong are in the top bunch for post season F2 testing.
Hope Lawson gets a seat in f2 and Armstrong gets confirmed with a top team.
