He needs to go back to club/provincial level cricket for a couple of years and prove himself on and off the field before he is given another chance. That would mean his T20 and One Day world cup chances are gone, but this could be the wake up call he needs.

This is the exact same thing that happened last time. Went back and proved himself at provincial, and then within weeks back in the NZ team, he proves how little he's actually learned. During his 100+ days of "sobriety" last year, I saw him absolutely smashed in town one night, and my mate saw him almost get denied from a plane for being too drunk a few weeks earlier.

Read my email again. I said "a couple of years", and not a few weeks as has happened before.

I'm pretty sure he was only 3 or 4 months short of a 2 year break from international cricket last time (more than "a few weeks"), I don't know how much more time you are wanting to give him, but considering his age, I hardly think he is worth persevering with now.

I thought location was invloved but maybe that is more to do with player rankings? With reference to the ODI rankings for NZ I think the main problem is that for everytime we beat India/England in a series we lose to Bangladesh which offsets the gains.

I was more thinking of finger spinners not leg spinners but I do hope Sodhi works out. With reference to finger spinners we need to find a spinner who doesn't bowl with a straight arm.

Too many chances and he has proven he cannot change. He is 29, needs to be gone burger

Yeah I forgot to take his age into account. I fully agree with you then - he is done with!

Bang on!

But knowing new Zealand sportsmen, after beating india most of them will think they are the best team in the world and will lose the next six games as a result

Jesse Ryder has been on the drink for a long time, since at least fifth form. His fifth form teacher took me for accounting and had a few stories about Jesse, mostly involving alcohol. Jesse can say he can give it up but in reality there is pretty much no chance he actually will. probably time NZ cricket cut their losses. bit of a shame really because Ryder is actually talented at cricket when he wants to be.
