First race 3pm apparently.

Races will probably be over in 25 minutes (or less).

4 races away this afternoon.

Can't wait.

I did a tour through the ETNZ base last Friday, got up close to the boat. In person, they are a beast, much bigger than they seem in TV pictures etc.

US$175 to stream it here.  No thanks, yay for technical workarounds.

vexxxboy: ...never has so much money been spent on a event that no one really cares about but NZ...

This statement should be amended with the 'but NZ' being removed. And needs to read:

'...never has so much money been spent on a event that no one really cares about...'

It's been quite the bankroll in the past despite the crazy upfront loans and expenses.

Unfortunately the customers that it flows from, just aren't here this time. Stupid Covid.

Some of them got in early (superyachts) for work in Hamilton first. But that made the news with people crying foul over the loophole letting them sit onboard for 2 weeks self quarantining being seen as 'allowing the rich to bypass'

When they do come in and park up, they go through a lot of booze and product while here. But alas. Be a fraction this time around. So it's going to be a bit of a 1-way loan flop I suspect.

All the same. Be nice to see something so close to shore and FTA (at least this portion) of some rocketships.. Can't believe they had to reinforce the no-drone message this morning on national tv. Dur. Are we really that silly.

43kts in 10kt winds. ~80Kph 4:1 ratio aint bad!

Check out AirFlows channel for some close preview of what we should see. Uses ultra long lens and camps out the testing patches

Wow, that was some victory. Congrats to Team NZ. 47Kts top speed with a 14kt wind. Amazing.

Upwind disadvantage.. gone. It's just. Speed. The amount varies.

Youtube has 4 feeds. Animation, camera on each, and mixed broadcast.

Lot's of overseas people whining they can't watch due rights. Welcome to our world.

Peter Burling after race 1 “I’m the king of the Waitemata”

Dean Barker “Hold my beer”.

Looks like the start is where it’s at.

Yes, it's big. If you are behind, the leader hogs the air, you get dirty air. They will choose the next shift, you have to follow. You can split, they will follow so you dont find an advantage.

In Race 4 that's what happened, but we still caught up and took the lead. Made a mistake turning too far and lost the foil, so lost that brief lead. Made other mistakes, and lost by only 12 seconds.

Peter Burling. "Sorry guys, I made errors, but what a boat"

Dean Barker  "What a boat, we need a meeting tonight to find another way"

Pity the foil cant system seems to be marring the event at the moment.  Hoping the teams / ETNZ are able to sort this out pronto so that races aren't lost due to supplied components.

Seemed to mostly be Americans. Did even see them complaining they'd have to pay $140 to watch the series - I assume this was for the few months its on. Still felt some Schadenfreude.

It feels bizarre we have the options of TV One and YouTube. I only watched the YouTube stream. Did anyone flick between the two - is the only difference the commentary?

Aussies are also geolocked.

And yep, 1 off fee for coverage through march. Or vpn fee

Seems they also had it promoted through the gunnel with generic watch free online and youtube ads but found it wasn't so
Never tuned into tv.
With the comments of the adverts being jammed in and martin getting too excited that was enough to keep on the multi cam /broadcast youtube feed and data to the side form where they took too long to overlay

Found the race direction really weird from a TV point of view. We had one tacking duel all day and they cut to the fan village in the middle of it, and by the time they returned it was all over? Also the sweeping shots around the yachts at a low level destroy any sense of speed and make it really hard to know what the hell is going on or where they were going. Very cinematic, very montage-ish, but entirely useless for adding something to the race coverage.
