IOC still think they can push on with the games. No comment on how to handle Olympic qualification without the build-up events.

5 stages of grieving - denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance
IOC at stage 1-2. Don't worry they'll get there.
Next step is bargaining when they try to come up with all sorts of weird solutions.
The airoplane has takeoff from Tokyo yesterday. https://japantoday.com/category/2020-tokyo-olympics/Plane-leaves-Japan-for-Greece-to-collect-Olympic-flame
i don't know anything about the cancellation, but i have submitted yesterday article here https://newzealandcasinos.nz/cancelled-sports-events-due-to-coronavirus/
about the cancellation of all sports event.
I think it is entirely possible that the IOC has engaged Bernie Sanders as a consultant on decision making & timing.
it should be postponed or cancelled, but i think that's highly unlikely as the IOC stands to lose out a lot of money if it doesn't go ahead. Unfortunately $$$ matters more to the IOC than an athlete's health. Japan will also take a big hit, and with a recession double whammy.
Canada has pulled out of the games. I suspect we will see more countries follow suit. Although they are looking to postpone the games until next year but haven't announced anything yet.
