Yes, that’s my point. What happens when a foil loses lift near the surface, or when only partially submerged, is not cavitation - even though Spithill and others have used that term.

Yes, when they lost the foil the boat lifted quite high and the foil isn't that deep, as if they stalled it

I don't find it that way. Most home commentaries are terribly parochial as that's what the yokels want to hear.

The YouTube team seem to want close races and they get that with Prada in front.

They're just not outright explicitly fellating ETNZ all the time. I can also live without Scotty Stevenson on everything - fantastic voice for calling rugby but the whole TVNZ coverage feels a bit of 'how many TVNZ people can we cram in there' regardless of what they may have to contribute. We've got Toni Street adding very little, we have one actual sailor, maybe two as talking heads if if we're lucky, Willie Cribb and Jack Tame chipping in, in addition to the roving reporters in the Village and spectator zones. An hour of pre-show before racing even starts seems hugely excessive.

You're going to upset @networkn

He's chairman of the Scotty Stevenson fan club and wants him on every possible event.

Wondering why LR allowed a split twice and got burned twice. I can't see that they would move away from covering off TNZ as we have proven we have the speed to hang with them if they block us and we will run away if we get clear. It can only be they saw a wind shift and were wrong.

LR did make initial gains, so I don't think they were wrong about the wind. They were also close to the layline so their favoured mark rounding would've been a factor in their decision. We've heard Spithill saying LR could 'hit' TNZ again in previous races, but in this case the boats were sailing a fairly direct path down the course, limiting the number of potential manoeuvres prior to setting up for the mark.

I dont mind Scotty, although I did when he started appearing. Unlike many of our heavily biased commentators, he's not loud and out there. Take the cricket, he like the Kiwi ex Black Cap coimmentators favour NZ obviously, but free to compliment the other side often. You'll never get a neutral commentator, but if its more general commentary and less cringeworthy bias, I prefer that. Same as if our team loses but played well, I'm ok with that. Sport first, ideal result second

Could not agree more. I find the whole TVNZ AC coverage puerile and irritating to watch - so I don’t - except for the 20-odd minutes of each race. The commentary isn’t too bad and I prefer to hear Kiwi commentators rather than those on YT.

Fair points. Its certainly FAR more than just sailing fast, there are a lot of variables

I prefer to listen to the cup races via the Alternative Commentary Collective. At least they don't pretend to know anything about yachting.

I especially like it when they are blasting on about getting up on the Susan Boyles...

They're not as good at this as they are at Cricket, as they're surprisingly knowledgeable about that, but they do make it more interesting...TV on mute, pause for about 15sec, start and then it syncs up nicely with the FB watchalong commentary.

There was only one race yesterday. Keeping the sequence port/starboard/starboard/port, that puts TNZ on starboard for both races today.

Scotty is getting on my nerves, they are rolling him out for everything from rugby, cricket, tiddlywinks and now yachting.  Don't TVNZ or Spark or Sky have anyone else....   You cant be a subject matter expert in everything.

He's just an MC, conduit for the real experts, bit O banter etc. Re the yachting, watch YT if you want expert analysis
