Dochart: Macca is now an assistant coach of the NZ womens team.

Is that right, I had not heard this, that is great news for the women's side. I have a lot of time for McMillan as a batting coach. He was always a bit too impetuous as a player for my liking, but he sure did impress as a coach with the Black Caps. Batting averages largely went up in his time with them.

Just recently in the last week or so. Didn’t think he would coach anytime soon as he also has commentary gig as well.

So far the selectors have been letting us down with not selecting Munro for the last 3 T20 World Cups particularly Aus and West Indies T20 World Cup he would have been vital having played in those conditions in T20 leagues. Selectors doing anything they can so we can never win a world cup.

After that 2021 T20 World Cup this team hasn’t been same since then. I don’t know what has happened the past 3 years or so. We really need that 2015-2021 winning mentality back.

Dochart:  with not selecting Munro for the last 3 T20 World Cups

Dont get me angry, it has angered me for too long, he actually got selected but never played a game one series.

Im torn with Seifert as he had that really good CPL season, but since that year has been inconsistent, but can it be any worse than Conways form.... Finn is never going to be reliable, hes all hand eye and brute force, when it comes off its epic. I can live with that. But we need somebody consistent opening.

Yep, USA look pretty much in with the 2 wins, of course they could drop the remaining games and miss out, but I feel unlikely.

I actually think AFG were completely under rated going into this. They are now a complete unit with one of the top t20 bowling attacks right now. I would love to see them go on passed the first final.

Im not sure how the group winners are placed in the finals but I could conceive Ind vs AFG.

That opening partnership needs to be consistent. I can handle Allen being inconsistent as when he does get going he can make a difference in the game when we saw him bashing Aussie bowlers on their home turf at the 2022 T20 World Cup. But when Allen fails Conway and Williamson need to rebuild but we didn’t see it happen today.

Siefert should have been in the 15. I don’t think Conway wicketkeeping is up to par for internationals. Allen and Siefert would have been a great opening combo. Both score quite quickly at the start of their innings whereas Conway needs to play a few dot balls before he gets going. Need to bring back that Guptill and Munro opening partnership but with more consistency.

Dochart: Guptill and Munro

That really was THE opening set for us. Guppy not technically retired is focusing on the circuit, which at his end of career looming is fair enough, but he also had that bad hammy end of our domestic if I remember, I hope thats healed for him. Loved his technical ability with the lofted straight drive over the score board, holding the golf swing pose in admiration of the ball disappearing.

Finn isnt a strong player on technique, but he is also our most dangerous player once that hand eye gets going. Its not like we dont have other options than Conway to open with Finn. I know they were awesome at Welli together with Munro and Guppy squeezing Finn out of auckland (now hes back with Munro focusing on the BBL its musical chairs)

Ravindra is an option.

Finn is not consistent though, one great score along with nine failures in every ten innings is not good enough. Especially when Conway can't buy a run at the other end. He should never have been selected for the side, having been out with injury for three months. You might forgive that if he had been scoring the house down prior to the injury, but he's been poor the last twelve months at least.

Stead might want to keep faith with Conway, but it's now become blind faith and not a defendable decision any longer. Add that to the fact that Conway is not international-quality as a keeper, and Seifert can feel very unlucky not to be there. Even Latham would have been a better option for his stopping skills and runs, or Cam Fetcher who has been knocking on the door for a while.

I agree with the Latham selection. He did alright in the previous T20 series he last played for NZ. I would have picked Siefert or him as opener compared to Conway any day of the week at this stage. Even Siefert and Latham would have been a better opening combo than what we have now.

After Conway got that injury during the 2021 T20 World Cup he hasn’t been that consistent. He may had a few good scores since that time but he use to be real consistent before 2021 T20 World Cup. I remember he use to score on average 50-100 runs per game.

Do or out must win vs WI for the kiwis, good start for the kiwi bowler 20/2. Good catch by Conway.

Our swing duo on in the night conditions.

Edit: Lockie  bowls, Rachin catches, 3 down.

Edit: Its essentially our old winning team post Guptil. I oddly like it. 4th down, 3 to southee. what a call to bring him back in.

Edit: Nesham goes for six, then Conway takes a 3rd speccy catch. WI 30/5 :-). Mitchell off the field after ball struck the hand earlier, hope hes ok.

Sub 100 score, almost tempted to push GP up the top order, depends if Mitchell can bat.

Edit: Nesham is looking a world class bowler just bowling more Test cricket length, it is moving insane amounts off the pitch for pace bowlers.

Edit: Nehsam after ten over break gets on 6/63

I knew Russel would be a problem down the order, Lockie was 6/1 off 2 prior to this over.

annnnd Boult cleans up Russel, WI in trouble now of being bowled out 76/7

Edit: Mitchell back on, great signs. WI only need to bowl pace on a length or back of a length and this pitch will do the rest, the ball is either sticking in the pitch and dying or its moving substantially laterally.

NZ should bowl their pace bowlers out to try and bowl WI out with overs remaining for them to pull off a miracle score.

NZ losing the plot now. We did so well at the start. I just hope the batting gets easier for us in the second innings. Need to improve our NRR and win the remaining 3 games by a big margin to make it to the Super 8’s

Yep, first have to win this, hopefully quickly, but after that we need to hammer the two minnows with biiiiig scores.

One more down. Lockie has been good. Reviewing one hitting middle stump 3/4 way up lol, I guess may as well try.

Edit: see, back of a length, short, and hits stumps mid way up. Hard to bat on this. Im worried NZ will try to smash it.

Edit: lol jaffa from Boult, rocks the castle. 9 down

awesome Boult. 3/16 from his 4. thats top draw.

What is Mitchell doing on after going for 16 in the 19th vs afg. Now back to back 6s. make that 3 6s.

Edit: That is a classy 50 off this pitch. 50 off 33, may be the winning innings. NZ second ten was rubbish.

Now the spinner for the 20th over. We could have West Indies out for under a 100 and now they could get 140-150. This is going to be a tough chase for NZ and even if we win NRR may still be lower than West Indies if they win against Afghanistan
