But if the top 6 can all make 26 like finn, we will win.

I will settle for someone else getting 26 at this rate.

haha same. WI bat all the way to 11.

NZ still have hope but now we need a couple of 50s.

We are ahead of where they were at, but we have less depth, so possibly even.

70 from 7, doable, but will need some boundaries, with only Santner left. One of these two, prob GP, need to equal the WI Rutherford innings.

The worms have met, they had lost 2 more wickets. So our bottom 3 kinda evens things out from here.

Thats it, all over.

They just leave far too much for GP to do so often. I think putting GP in at 3, given his hand eye coordination is worth him scoring a more controlled version of Finn allen, especially if Conway fails. Hes the only batsman I have faith in, including Williamson at the moment.

But yes, we are better than this. How did we let them get to 150 from 30/5 is the first question.

Then our batting. Finn and GP are the two with the hand eye to handle these pitches that are not world class with variable bounce and sideways movement. Possibly Williamson too, but hes so out of form.

Firstly, no cricket coming into a WC is stupid.

Coaches we indeed need a new batting coach, our bowlers did a good job in the first ten but could finish it off. O'rourke can bat a bit cant he? We may need another wicket taker who can also bat a bit.

Selectors, well essentially our Head coach makes all the decisions, our selector only makes suggestions while scouting our talent, but Stead choses the squads. Kane makes requests to Stead on who he would like in the team from the squad, they sit down together etc. Its this process that maybe needs rethinking.

GP should have been batting at No 4 at this World Cup like the previous one in Australia. Why did they swap GP and Mitchell in the batting order was a ridiculous decision. GP has had so much success at the No 4 position. I think Mitchell is better as opening or at No 5 just before Neesham.

RNZ thinks so

After just two games, the Black Caps World Cup dream is over. It is mathematically possible for them to qualify but requires miraculous scoring by minnow teams over cricket's powers. ...

Courtesy of CricInfo ...

Are New Zealand out of the tournament after their loss to West Indies?

Mathematically, New Zealand still have a chance, but they will need several things to go in their favour. With West Indies already through, New Zealand can only qualify if they knock out Afghanistan, who are currently sitting pretty with two huge wins from two games, a net run rate of 5.225, and a game against PNG to come. New Zealand have lost both matches, and their NRR is -2.425.

For them to qualify, Afghanistan will have to lose both their remaining games - to PNG and West Indies - while New Zealand will have to win their two - against Uganda and PNG - by huge margins. For instance, if Afghanistan lose their last two games by a combined margin of 120 runs, New Zealand will have to win theirs by a combined margin of 187 (assuming scores of 160 by the teams batting first).

If Afghanistan beat PNG or if that game is rained out, then New Zealand are out.

And they're out.
Even the arithmetic possibility of squeaking into the top 8 has now gone.

the team’s lack of preparation ... will only come under the spotlight more now the axe has officially fallen on their World Cup campaign.  That happened on Friday afternoon. Afghanistan started New Zealand’s misery last weekend, and put them out of their misery when they beat Papua New Guinea by seven wickets in Trinidad.

If only we could say that about the ineffectual coaching and selection staff, and the considerable deadwood that littered the squad at the World Cup.

Not to mention the spineless NZ Cricket leadership who should have got the big hook out and dragged the nine IPL players over to the Caribbean in plenty of time to schedule some meaningful warm-up matches, and at least give the impression that a world tournament matters significantly to all concerned.

some dumb moves, mitchell bowling and santner being the final over. needed to be Lockie.

those two huge overs are seen on the worm with a  huge rise at the end. Boult almost could have pulled off a miracle with the 6s but we should have won it with our bowling after 30-5 on a deck that was so inconsistent in bounce and seam, we didnt play to traps. but the final two overs, if they had them to ten runs each over so be it, but should have been won much earlier in NZ bowling.

not selecting Boult when hes available often enough is rubbish selecting.

Too many times where we have lost from a winning position is getting ridiculous. I don’t see other test playing nations making the same mistakes we do. At 30-5 should have won it from that position. This isn’t the first time where NZ have lost from a winning position.

Here are some of the recent games where we have lost from a winning position. These are some of the games I have remember

2019 ODI World Cup Final - Had England at 86/4 with a target of 241. Lost the Super Over due to boundary count back.

2020 T20 Series vs India
3rd and 4th T20 - Tied both matches and lost both in the Super Over.

2022 ODI Series vs Australia in Australia
1st ODI - Had Aus at 5/44 and Aus successfully chased with a target of 233
2nd ODI - Had Aus at 8/117 and Aus successfully defended target of 195/9 with NZ out for 82

2024 Test Series vs Australia
2nd Test - 2nd Batting innings had Aus at 80/5 and successfully chased the target of 279

This reminds me of our last test series in aus wit aus approx 200 or less for 5, NZ unable to finish them off and win both fairly comfortable games had we just gotten Labuschagne and Payne from memory.

That was with Boult playing through injury etc. I think Lockie first and last Test series.

Last time we’ll see a few of these players in a T20 match I think.

They’ve bowed out with a decent win against weak opponents, but it’s been a tournament to forget.
