Batman:

everytime this sort of debates pop up, you don't know how lucky that we have free speech here. anyone wants to try this sort of debate in Saudi / China ... be my guest ...

It is good that we are allowed to ridicule the stupidity of this. It is sad that this stupidity occurs.

Faith is individualistic and immutable and incorruptible.

Religion is a social construct, made by Man for Man to explain Faith, therefore it is fallible.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Rugby Australia and Folau have reached a settlement. It's probably the most sensible thing for both parties but I do wonder what Folau will do with all the money he collected.

Bet he won't repay any unused money he collected from supporters. Let's hope he now disappears into the obscurity he deserves.

Reports out of Australia suggest RA with IF settled for $8M. There was a clear and obvious winner in that scenario if it's true. It certainly speaks to doubts about the strength of RA's case that they would settle for that amount.

We're sorry. We didn't want to offend anyone.

But we may have also offended someone who offended you because of religion. And we are offended by that. But they didn't mean to offend you either. And you can't be offended by them doing so.

$$$$$

love. Happyness. Less offended people

Perhaps not.

I saw a welcome to 2019 meme recently that was gold. A father asking a son with a cookie 'what's the magic word to get what you want?' - "I'm offended" (not referring to in particular to this case, but in so many scenarios this year inclusive of)

Folau is clearly a winner cos he rejected the $1 m he was offered earlier in the deal. RA is clearly a winner cos they've got rid of (and probably gagged in some way) a religious nut job.

I wouldn't read too much into the strength of either side of the case unless you're a lawyer specialising in these things. Clearly both sides thought it was initially worth a crack but with enough doubt not to pursue a judgement.

I would say a large factor in RA's decision would be to avoid a public fight. Sometimes even if you win you lose.

But as a commentator said (forgot name soz) it's shame the case wasn't pursued to judgement as it would have delivered a precedent for freedom of speech vs employment law, in Australia in any case.

It's about what will the legal costs be that make it better to get a final and known amount. Certainty. The case was not a guarantee. One article, in AUS suggested A$300,000. Another made up 8 Million. Folau's magic number will be clearly a lot lower then RA's

I dont feel its about avoiding a fight, it cant get any worse than what it has been. Its about saving some cash

Whether it cost 1M 5M 8M 14M the end result was worth it

Yes, it would have been better for everyone else to test the case

I would hope the terms stay confidential and things move on. Why give it more publicity.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Hope would they know. Its based on guessing due to folau upping his terms to 14 mil. Presumable a very educated guess by an experienced lawyer.

It got 24 pages of publicity on this forum alone, people are clearly interested, if only to display a bit of outrage for either side of the argument.

Rugby Australia have said they settled for less than the trial would have cost. It seems more likely.
