Looks like the fire has well and truly taken hold: https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/350326092/liam-lawson-soon-take-over-daniel-ricciardos-formula-1-seat
Starting to seem like its now Lawson's seat for Ricciardo to have to win back. I would pick the summer break will be when theyre swapped (seems pretty obvious it'll be then...or never).
Jvipers2: Watching the post race interview of the Spanish GP, it's interesting to see that Max is so jovial with Lando even after Lando tried to push him off the track...you can clearly see a different dynamic with Lewis trying so hard to join in but was given the cold shoulder...
Well Max and Lando are pretty much best buds! I was actually surprised to see Lewis joining in and Max responding - they even both teased Lando in the press conference about running Max off the road. Seems they've got over their feud (maybe too strong a word) and respect each other. Obviously not at the level of Max + Lando but its certainly civil and even jovial.
tdgeek:
Herald so may be paywalled but I guess it will be elsewhere as well
Speaking of the much-maligned broadsheet from our much-maligned largest city, did anyone bother watching the official presser post-race with Max, Lando and Lewis? Who should be there asking a question of Hamilton but some old geezer claiming to be from the NZ Herald, not the guy on the byline of the cited article either.
Barcelona's about as far away from the office as you can get, I did wonder at the time if they'd had the word from someone on Lawson's team that there was a big story coming about his future and they wanted boots on the ground to cover it.
Also found the Sharpie comment on the back of Ricciardo's helmet an interesting development. Apparently he started tagging his helmets just prior to getting the archer at McLaren too. Maybe he's had the final written warning from his employer, hard to say. What I do know is I won't miss all his touchy-feely comments in interviews over recent times if they move him on soon. They way he talks about his feelings all the time, is that even Australian?!
Jaxson: DR is marketing power. I’d keep him and his sponsorship with Lawson. The car is a dump so the drivers matter less at this point. Yuki likely to Aston Martin to follow Honda engines and Alonso to retire.
Ricciardo doesn't need to be in the car to assist VCARB's marketing/sponsorship obligations. In fact, not being encumbered by driving duties to then be able to tour the United States and get up to Ricciardo-shaped shenanigans for Visa and CashApp sounds like a win-win for both sides.
Yeah-nah, Tsunoda looks like he's stuck in the RBR family for a while longer with Baby Stroll securing another deal at Aston for the forseeable. He must have some really skilled negotiators on his team to get proverbial blood out of a stone on that one!
Tsunoda extended, he's got that seat with a lot of more certainty than Perez has his. Ricciardo still has it all to play for IMO, RBR can solve almost all of their problems if Perez does not perform and they are able to drop him or sideline him; Ricciardo moves back next to Max, they retain his star power, Lawson gets his ride and Hadjar can step into the reserve driver role.
Realistically, the signing of Perez will probably be seen to be someone trying to outmaneuver someone else; he sure as hell shouldn't be there on merit or form. It might cost them a few sovereigns but if the choice is an out-of-form driver who doesn't wreck versus one who does, Daniel should be in that seat instead.
RBR also have some prodigy talent coming through F3 so Lawson/Hadjar are somewhat in a race against the clock to establish themselves too.
TBH I'd almost rather see Lawson at Audi at this point, with much less pressure and realistic expectations about what the car can do in 2025.
Spicy and equally to blame.
Seeing some of the old Max come out with moving under braking. At this stage though just glad to see a point where it's not just a one car race. In race trim Red Bull looked exceptional, qualifying nearly a 1/2 second faster than everyone else on a fairly short track.
Desperation from Lando but you can't dive bomb into a corner you can't even make yourself and scream I was alongside, you have to leave me space. That's some George Russell level tactics. Those cars were fairly evenly matched at times today but pretty much just sloppy all round, with passess being slow speed affairs on technicality that I'm ahead and we've both stopped on track to navigate a corner slowly after a divebomb attempt. Can see how Oscar cleaned up in the sprint following that sort of shenanigans and having speed into a corner the two ahead had lost. Really keen to see gravel on every corner now!

Jvipers2:
Ted's interview with McLaren's team principal basically sums up Max. Great to see that Lewis wasn't the only one having it.
British broadcaster talking to British team about incident involving British driver. Not exactly a recipe for insight. I'd place about as much stock in a translated interview with Horner from a Dutch broadcaster.
Ted was trying to relitigate Adelaide 1994 not long ago, which was some 30 years ago. The only constant in F1 in the last four years has been their ability to lose their minds any time someone dares go side-by-side with a Brit.
Brundle, to his credit, is decidedly more objective than the other talking heads they have floating around.
As for the actual incident in question: The balance between a car in front being able to defend against a car dive-bombing from a long way back is not something the rules capture at all, nor 'moving' (i.e. moving away from the line and then back to it and when that is or isn't acceptable), and even if they did I don't trust the stewards to be consistent in applying penalties at all. Things in the sprint race yesterday that were not penalties were penalties today and vice versa.
All of this goes back to it being acceptable to run your opponent off track at exit or close them off an apex and eventually drivers have emerged through the junior series that only know how to defend a position in such a way. Entirely predictble. They drivers will race to the rules they are given, so fix them.
afe66: Caused the crash and still ended up with more points..
I don't like the "you cant go dive bombing like that" comments. If there's a gap a racer is going to take it. It never looked like Lando was going to t-bar Max at any point so play on. I thought the penalties dished out were fair. Lando for exceeding track limits (when he couldn't stop the car in time) and Max for causing the collision. I'd rather see that kind of "hard", and mostly fair, racing than a boring procession.
