The Stokes circus is just a sideshow, on that pitch Rachin and Mitchell essentially batted England out of the test.

On another note, it's so hard to reconcile Ravindras day 4 batting vs his dismissal in the first innings. He was the only batter in both teams who looked comfortable batting in the second innings.

Great tour all round, all the top 7 batters contributed meaningful runs. Same with the bowlers. I can't remember a time where we had such depth across every position.

Eng will capitulate late. The wicket is terrible for batting

NZ will take the series 2-1 unless weather has a say

Very easy in the end, a great series win in the UK.

Read this BTL in Stuff, not sure if it's true or not. But pretty cool if so.
The best stat is that this team has the most players (8) to score a century or take 5 wickets in any three test series ever.

Sears nabbing Duckett near end day 4 pretty much sealed it, 4 down. But I was expecting Root and then Smith to get them close. Root running on Nicholls arm was the end of that, although Smith did end up adding 60 odd, with 100 from Root and things might have been tighter.

NZ were far from consistent though. The openers both score 150 in the first and all out for 400 odd, then all of the top order miss out and #4 and 5 get 96 and 100NO with the rest of the mid and tail failing to help out.

Gotta get Rhys in this team imo. It can't happen quick enough, outside injury.

I just hope O'rourke, Henry and KJ are niggles and will be ok for the Ind tour where we essentially need to win the lot to keep in the hunt for 2nd place for the ITC. Which is highly unlikely given possible injury and the fact we couldn't put a decent Team effort with the bat together.

Like most fans I will take the win though haha, wins a win.

As for Stokes, the end of one of NZs best players. That is about all I want to think on it haha.

This series win over England seems to be a little under reported in NZ, considering how much of an achievement it actually was. It is huge for NZ cricket to win a test series against England in England. Maybe I missed a lot of the reporting, but TVNZ only reported it in the sport section where it should have at least made a mention in the main news (in my opinion).

Probably because we won a test series in England before our WTC win in 2021.

Now if we can beat Aus in Aus in the test series later this year expect all the NZ media to talk about as we haven’t won a test series in Aus since 1985

I think people underestimate how good this team is and what they have achieved. If you said to me 15 years ago we would have 5 batters averaging +- 40, and a keeper and number 7 averaging 35, then 4 bowlers averaging +- 25 (and players behind them competing for positions) I would have laughed in your face.

Series wins in India, England, WTC and multiple other finals. What a time to be a fan.

But all that success aside, the biggest change for me since the bad old days in the 90's and 00's is that no matter the situation or opponent it always feels like the team has a plan and the confidence to stick to it.

Australia is the last mountain to climb. They had the number of the golden generation. Latham as skipper has beaten England in England and India in India. Australia is the big one that’s evaded us.

Excellent work with the bat by Lennox there to take the ODI series over WI.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2026/jul/29/stephen-fleming-england-test-coach-cricket

Don't you have any of your own coaches?

Well, I suppose they had to get someone in until Kane Williamson makes himself available to coach them.

If NZC can't afford to hire any of these ex-top blokes who want to coach, just not for their own country, maybe they can scrounge up a few extra bucks by selling the silver fern motif to the ECB.

Good luck to Fleming though, his reign will likely last only until they discover they still can't beat the Indians and the Aussies. Mustn't grumble, I guess NZ is going alright with the world's hand-me-downs and second tier coaching talent.

Turns out they have a few, but they don't want to work in a split role with BMac
