PS remember they were in the quarters by luck anyway ... lost to Japan and GB ... no surprises when you then lose to Fiji

stop blaming the refs.  as the above post, we barely made the quarterfinals and have to rely to fiji beating USA by 5 points.  it is a shame that we always have someone to blame everytime we lose..

I understand how it looks, and in THIS instance it probably wasn't the difference. Having said that, in some sports, where the difference between two teams might be one small decision, it takes away from the immense amount of hardwork to be in that position in the first place, to have a ref

be the difference. You often hear people say, "you should take the ref out of the equation" but when two teams are 1% apart......

For the (mens) sevens, the result was on par with our years performances.

So NZ had a 3 loss 3 win final result. Finished behind Fiji, G Britain, South Africa and (surprise) Japan. But ahead of Australia, France and Argentina. A pretty accurate reflection of this season's world rugby sevens. When you consider G Britain is made up of the best of 4 nations competing in the normal completion, I believe Fiji are up against it, but hope that they can win. They after all, with their flair, are the ones who put 7s on the map in the first place.

So all together now. FI JI, FI JI, FI JI,.....

Edit : Disclaimer, am watching the final at the moment. 10-nil to Fiji after 5 minutes.

It's over at half time. Fiji WILL get Gold.

29-0 to Fiji.

I heard this would be Fiji's first medal ever? Can that be true? Would be an outstanding 1st!

I always thought if NZ didn't win gold then the team I would like to see win it is Fiji.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Strange .  It's now 10.32am and Sky popup1 say the Fiji - GB game is now starting live on Skygo  but online  the results show the game finished...

Hooray! Another rugby world event not decided by a referees call.
Both the winners in the Gold and Bronze medal matches absolutely beanzed their opponents. Well done Fiji.

I'm pretty sure NZ lost 12-7 to Fiji, and 12-10 to both Japan and G Britain (didn't face S Africa) so the margins are small. All you have to do is look at what happened to the NZ eventing team to see what Olympic heartbreak is like.
You have to love the fact that the games aren't decided by someone taking a dive in the penalty box.

As a side note, I had to watch the second half with the sound turned off. Keith Quinn's commentary was so painful it was spoiling the game. Note to Sky Sport, he is well past his use by date.

Not yet. Wait till Argentina get in the knockouts. They already do that in Super rugby.

Gold medal!!!

Great win by Fiji 43-7 against Grt Britain for Fiji's first ever medal at an Olympic Games. Also interesting to see South Africa beat Japan 54-14 to get third place. Now just how could Japan have beaten NZ?

So the final placings are Fiji 1, Grt Britain 2, S Africa 3, Japan 4, NZ 5, Argentina 6, France 7, Australia 8, USA 9, Spain 10, Kenya 11, and Brazil 12.

Well, at least we finished ahead of the Aussies!

There were just over 10,000 people at the final which isn't bad I suppose and nice that Princess Anne was also there to present the gold medals to the Fiji players!

Umm ... not sure how NZ thought they had a chance at Gold!
