Dingbatt:

I disagree that it is sad way for Franks to go out. He already has two World Cups, multiple Super Rugby and Championship trophies and has represented his country more than 100 times. He has nothing more to prove, he’s already been there, done that (and got multiple T-shirts).

Of course it's sad that he can't finish on his own terms. It's not a tragedy, no one died, but to be dropped on form rather than retire is sad for such a great player and reasonably unusual.

To play over 100 tests over 10 years is a huge achievement and only the great players

I think that's a better way to phrase it, "on his own terms".

OPINION: Owen Franks deserved better.

The writer supports the viewpoint that I don't have and he doesn't appear to say anything new. But Richard Knowler's main argument for retaining Franks is somewhat a concern for me too.

Pretty classy response from Franks. If the worst happens (to one of the others) and he gets a chance to be part of the team again, I'd back him 110% to make a valued contribution.

I thought it was particularly good of him to make sure it's understood he doesn't want to take the place of a Mitre 10 long term prospect just so he can play.

It seems most people are hoping for another upset between Japan and SA this week. I'd say the chances are even less than they would ever be again. SA will win this game, and I expect reasonably comfortably no matter what it takes.

used to be a major rugby fan yet I havent watched a full game for almost 3 years, in certainty I didnt even understand the All Blacks were playing at the beginning of today until I read the news and saw they had won. im not certain what the reason is , to much rugby or that from what I have seen Rugby is truly exhausting to observe now.

Interesting squad. BB at 10, Reece and Bridge on the wings, Ioane nowhere to be seen. Ben Smith at Full back.

My key areas of interest are if Tuipolotu can put in a second big performance, how Crotty goes in his first test of the year, and to see if they are building Reece up defensively (though to be fair he has been fairly solid on defence most people would agree).

The biggest thing right now is to come through with a win and without serious injuries.

I was slightly surprised to see that SBW wasn't in the team. I would have thought they would want him with as much game time as possible.

Well, that answers that. Ioane and SBW have tight calves.

I found this interesting reading. Would be interesting to see this team compete in pool D.

NZ should be allowed to enter 2 teams into RWC :) however, all New Zealand final might not be as interesting for anyone else in the world.

To be fair I'd expect a AB's A side to absolutely massacre an AB's B side, even that B side.

You only need 3-4 absolutely world class players to make a difference in a team (lets class them as best in their position), and the AB's B side would be short in that regard. In my opinion the B side's only real chance would be to stop the A team from playing the type of Rugby they are trying to play. If they played the A teams plan A strategy it wouldn't be pretty.

Anyone playing the Superbru World Cup predictor? Anyone keen to setup a Geekzone pool for a bit of fun?

I won't be so sure. Judging by SR teams performance. There're a lot of individually brilliant kiwis at the teams, but yet most optimized team aka crusaders is one step ahead for the past couple years. They don't have all positions covered by word class ABs, but yet perform as solid unit.

So I think ABs B has a lot of potential

I put this on the Spark Sport Rugby thread, but an FYI here too for you all

Ive just noticed when looking at RWC section on Spark Sport that there are a lot of quite cool clips. 1014 Rugby Form Guide, Sit Down with Scotty Stevenson (various players), Unforgettbles (Top 5 this top 5 that etc)

Just an FYI if anyone wasn't aware. Just ONE WEEK!

Luke Jacobsen ruled out of world cup with delayed concussion symptoms. Gutting for everyone concerned.

Feel so sorry for the guy.
