Jvipers2: Another RB circuit this weekend before the break...will probably turn to another McLaren win looking at how they are going

No way Ferrari in the mix, but Mercedes seems to be able to pull it off if they can get everything right...

McLaren is the best car right now, and have no obvious weaknesses. I expect Red Bull and Mercedes will be stronger as fuel and weight burns off

I think high fuel is perhaps McLaren's weakness. They seem to struggle a bit at the start of races and come along stronger as the race goes on. Not a huge margin, but enough I've noticed something with them at the start of races.

Odd quali. McLaren went for dry race downforce, top idea, yet RBR went the other way in a race where start position matters less and speed matters more. Effectively they opted for a safe race not a high points race, strange. McLaren should sail through as the race unfolds, perhaps Max is just aiming for P3?

Not much chatter about this GP .I'm really looking forward to it. Being a fan of RBR, Max, McLaren and Oscar with his down under stuff, also Lando, a lot to like

Im picking a McLaren 1-2, Max 3rd, Mercedes 4th/5th. Ferrari next and somewhere/somehow Perez is sort of there. By default.

Was a pretty low key and uneventful race this morning. I really expected Max to have the pace to win (even from 11th) due to his qualy pace. I guess that shows me that race pace is different to one lap pace.

Great work by George on those tyres though! Went 16 laps longer than Lewis and still held him out

Surprising how difficult it seemed to be to overtake on the track. Undercuts seemed to be the order of the day.

Tough luck for Russel in the end. Big cock up by Mercedes after Russel called and made the one stop work.

Just saw Russell was DQd for underweight car so Hamilton takes the win. Crazy!

There was a lot of speculation as to whether worn tyres could have been responsible. The rule states that wets and inters will be substituted with dry tyres before the weighing. Why not all tyres with a standard set? After all it only takes a couple of seconds to do.

Different car setup for the wet Quali for Redbull.

That was a fun race, everybody got it wrong. Harder to pass than expected, deg wasn't high as was expected. Mercedes have done a McLaren, and fixed the car so good on them

The only constant was Checo

Piastri has now grown. He's always been quick, but the odd mistake, tyre management, always been in Lando's shadow, but not anymore, he has taken the next step. Not sure how Lando will handle that

As anticipated RBR have doubled-down on the original decision and kept Checo going in the second seat. Defies all rational thought but they clearly see the WCC as a secondary consideration to whatever else makes the Mexican attractive to them, despite their public protestations that it's "unsustainable".

Maybe it's about the cash, maybe it's about the wind tunnel time, maybe it's about the Horner/Marko powerplay. It's just definitely not about the driving. Thought is was interesting to see Horner holding court in the garage at one point in Spa, obviously telling a story with Verstappen, Marko and GP all laughing along in agreement. Seeing that I wondered if things had calmed down/improved between him and the Doctor.

Focus must now switch to the VCARB sessions at Monza. I think I've read it correctly that they are having a filming day on Wednesday in the current car with Tsunoda, Ricciardo and Lawson turning out, then doing a test in the 2022 Alpha Tauri on the Thursday with Lawson and possibly Ricciardo?

Hope Lawson can impress enough to secure a drive though, on the back of the Perez decision, it feels less likely than ever that ability actually matters at Red Bull. I think Lawson becomes a free agent in September? The silly season could be well and truely done by then, plus Hadjar potentially continuing to impress in F2 and leap-frogging Lawson for any available VCARB seat.

A very interesting race weekend...all was predictable and boring until the lights went out...suddenly there's a 'strategic' race in hand with teams and drivers trying to out wit their opponents.

Amazed that the DRS has no impact...with so little passes made and Max and Lando being stuck together

Great to see Russell making it work, but disappointed of the DQ...could he have pulled it off with a legal car or will Lewis have breezed pass instead? Guess we'll never know...

Ferrari seems lost..at one point they looked like they were alright but slowly just settled...Lewis must be regretting his decision to join in 2025...

Nice post

Yes it was all very predictable.

2 stop, and maybe 3 might work.  1 was optimum

High deg                                   It wasn't

Easy to pass                             It wasn't

Medium has better pace              Seemingly not

It fooled all the teams and all the drivers and all the media! That George went long wasn't really a strategic masterpiece though, they predicted P5 if he stayed out or P5 if he pitted, so he chose track position and stayed out. But his masterclass was managing tyre wear, his battery to defend, and focusing on good traction leaving a bend. IMHO that was an 11/10 drive

Perez confirmed to stay, after all that. So no look-in for Lawson this side of 2025.

I wonder what his free agency date is.

You can never take RB announcements as final. Apparently Gazly was staying until he was replaced by Albon.
