Francis cited. So again, another Tier 1 team wins a game where a player gets to stay on the field after committing an offence.

The law really is an ass. By making such a draconian interpretation of the high tackle rule it has made the game almost unenforceable and guys are getting cited for "offences" which barely warrant a penalty.

if this is the England player's hit on a USA player in the 1st 15 seconds of the match it will be a yellow card/1 week suspension. I've seen the video.

What happened to Auckland provincial rugby?

I mean Super Rugby is not your local players, ie Kieran Reid plays for Cantebury but is an Aucklander (or Counties if you want to be specific).

There is a whole generation now that wont realise how important Auckland rugby is to the ABs, the majority of forwards etc.

They also probably dont know how completely dominant Auckland was for 100 years. Or that Auckland won for 5 years without a lost leading up to the 87 world cup.

I think Aucklanders need to actually start caring, I mean typically we just dont care because there is so much more in Auckland than Union, and the Auck result was never in doubt for decades it was a loss or 2 a year like the ABs. But to be smashed by Tasman is just a joke. People use to not go to Auck games simply because we knew the result, Auckland by a lot. And then Super Rugby came a long and our Auckland players are playing for other cities after 5 years of the comp there abouts, then of course they play pro footy so some dont even bother playing Provincial. And now provincial has players from everywhere but your own province including Aus.

Its real become a joke. If Auck rugby sucks so badly why are there so many Auckland AB's?

I reckon we were too generous to Aus and to the rest of NZ letting Aucklanders play elsewhere. But its done and dusted.

How does Auck rugby get back to winning not just provincial rugby but Super rugby.

Handle9: I'm out on this topic, it's getting a bit silly and everyone needs to chill out. I agree if @tdgeek wants to keep going with this it should have its own thread.

Ok, topic closed. Im sorry you feel that way. It was just a talking point relevant to the RWC, but it seemed to strike a nerve.

You don't think the Francis tackle warranted a card?

Auckland won the Mitre 10 cup last year.

The Blues are different and it will take a number of years to rebuild.

Under the laws it's a card but IMO the high tackle law is a joke.

Francis came in to make a legitimate tackle and missed. No swinging arm, no shoulder charge, no intent to injure, he got his timing marginally wrong, especially as the US player dropped marginally lower as he took the ball. He's barely got him above the shoulders.

It's a penalty, fine, but It's not foul play, it's a mistake in technique. It used to be that cards were for deliberate acts, not mistakes.

Given the very fine line between high and legitimate do you really expect it to have any real effect other than make games a lottery?

Wow. Japan just beat Ireland!

What a game. Ireland looked to be cruising after half an hour, then Japan went into overdrive.

Awesome last 20 for Japan. Such a great game.

It's not great for NZ though. If Japan beat Scotland then we play Ireland in the quarters.

Yeah, running on the crowds adrenaline, and they are fit as. IRE forced to play hard take a few risks, and on their back foot more than they anticipated. It happens. Nothing to lose , throw the kitchen sink. Great effort.

i thought the ref was slightly biased ... he didn't award any penalty to Ireland when they were attacking in the last 15 mins. he was quite happy to award penalties to Japan it seemed.

who knows ... it's not a game that will get the social media TMO on fire

Ireland seemed to have no plan b when their possession strategy didn't work against a determined Japanese defence.

the pre match talk about carbery not being experienced enough seem to be right with him inexplicably kicking he ball away after time with Japan in the lead

also, great streaming on spark sport until. Japan took the lead, and it buffered for bit as I imagine more viewers joined the stream?

I had that in the back of my mind in the last 10 minutes. But in the end if Japan can beat the number 2 side in the world, who’s to say they wouldn’t beat the number 1 side.
