Just read Stuff comments, the usual. Just read player ratings. ENG had good ratings, NZ has very poor ratings. As usual, little credit is given to the team that won, its more about why we lost, we had a bad day, we didn't play well. However anything anyone feels about any AB's last night, they didnt have a bad game or play poorly, the opposition shut them down. Game of stategy, they they need have a plan for that the next time it happens.

Ok so excuse my ignorance, not the biggest rugby fan more into other sports but can someone tell me what the hell is the thinking behind the up and under / box kick? I'm really struggling to understand. Just such a silly, low percentage play in my opinion yet the AB's time and time again throughout the WC kept doing it. I mean they kept doing it from around their 22 kicking it only 15-20 meters for at best to have a 50/50 chance to regain possession only like 40 out. What is even the point of this? What is the endgame of this strategy supposed to be?

Gives us some chance at possession instead of next to no chance.

Best case for a box kick you get the ball back. Worst case your entire defensive line is on side and on-top of the opposition who have to retreat behind the ball. You also pin them to a touch line which is where the rush defense works best.

There is a huge difference being 40 out compared to 20.

50:50 odds of regathering and gaining 20 metres is much easier than getting bashed for 10 phases to gain the same distance.

The most famous box kicker is van der westhuizen who unfortunately got taken by motor neuron disease. Faf is a almost a carbon copy of the big man.

Despite the result, the atmosphere at the game was great. I was surrounded by Welsh/Irish/Bokke/English/Ozzy, and it was a great time with quality banter and all up for a chat. Football could learn a thing or two from Rugby crowds.

I live in the middle east and watched it with a lot of English supporters at a golf club. Got a handshake and good luck before the game and they were gracious afterwards. It was good fun and no agro.

As I was in the elevator at the hotel in the afternoon (in my All Blacks jersey) another English chap gave me the hard luck comment.

There are some a-holes supporting England but by and large rugby people are pretty decent.

South Africa defeat Wales to set up a final with England. I wonder if England have played their final? Can they repeat a performance like that or will South Africa slow it down into a kick fest?

I dont see why not. kick the ball into RSA territory, play the game there, wait for the spilled ball and penalty. They have shown in two games that it works. AUS had 70 possession, and were soundly beaten. Unsure what possession was for NZ vs RSA, but it was the same plan.
