Been getting out quite a bit on the eBike lately - helps when you have three weeks off.

I actually didn't realise until I went for a ride with my 20 year old son, who is a fit, aggressive rider, just how much more riding I really get from having an eMTB.

We did 18 pretty tough km and he was cooked. I felt like I was just warmed up!

Anyway - here's some pics from the GoPro.

It's all fun and games until you get back on your normal bike and realise how weak your legs have gotten from having assist 😂

I really need to get bike fit again as I'm going to Rotorua again in February

Yeah I try to ride on lower assist modes as much as I can to remain fully active and engaged in my rides, but do tend to find myself creeping further into Trail or Boost modes on the longer climbs.

That was my Dad vs me a couple of years ago. This year with all the riding and endurance training I've been doing, I was having to back right off and stay in zone 2 HR only so I didn't drop him too much. Though when he kicked up the E-boost on the trails he was catching me on the hills again. We knocked out a 46km easy trail ride in Taupo which is the sort of ride he's doing multiple times a week at 75 years old. Only racked up 12,000km on the e-bike in 4 years.

Yeah, I'll struggle to keep up with him again in a few months, when his football season starts up again and he's fully match fit - he's had a summer off training and has been just surfing and casual riding, so lost a lot of his normal fitness/cardio.

I do think I'll have to get a tow rope for my youngest son though - he's hopeless with climbs and if I leave him behind, he'll stop coming out with me.

I tried to ride some new trails at Riverhead (WCRC) but good god the new climb sucked. It's been awhile since I've felt like I've not got a low enough gear, especially in Auckland.

Will have another go after a decent meal (instead of skipping lunch to squeeze a ride in).

Yeah that's my problem, I don't see the point of and eeb if you're going to use lower assist modes.. the only point of lower assist modes is to get more range (imo)

Single sided, upside down fork (!) , bluetooth dropper (waaa?) and full carbon frame.

I'm still happy with my bike, but ......

But yeah, I too have never been able to get my brain around how a Lefty can possibly work. But since they've been making them for well over 20 years now, I guess it does work unlike many other suspension systems over the years (Girvin, elastomers etc) that came and went.

Still amuses me that my 25 year old Mongoose DH-ish bike had coil Marzocchi Bombers and a coil Rockshox rear shock but is out performed by the current mid range air spring shocks. Though, I've serviced the new ones once each, the Marzocchi's got a couple of oil changes and the Rockshox coil rear shock has never been serviced in 25 years.

I was always one of those people who drooled over the Lefty when they first came out, but was convinced it could never be stable enough to hold up to regular MTB shenanigans...despite the fact taht they had a pro team using the things!
I also loved their Headshok back in the day, so that was where my lust mostly gravitated, as they had a more robust look about them.

Cannondale still make some beautiful bikes. Their eBikes are particulalry sexy and very well specced, but Cannondales have always been a bit too pricey here in NZ, IMO.

My 12 year old daughter needs a new Bike for High School. It's about a 30 minute ride for her (about 20 for my 15 year old Son).

Her current bike is heavy and the gears are crap.

My primary focus is weight and hers is getting gears which are reliable, smooth and easy to use. I think a single cartridge of 9 or 11 gears is plenty.

Anyone got any recommendations? New or Excellent condition second hand is fine.

general rule is if the front chainring has gears the rest of the bike is generally built with poorly functioning parts, front chainring on its own, the bike is generally built with good parts

But said she is less worried about looks than the gears being easy to use and smooth. I want decent brakes and lightweight.

Quality is a factor, I want something to last her through High School ideally.

I am not keen on an E-Bike as I suspect too heavy, too expensive, and too likely to be stolen.
