The French were not the better team on the day, they were lucky they had a ref firmly in their pocket.

I don't blame the ref at all. Not even slightly! You can't rely on the ref to win a game of rugby. Quite frankly the French played superb rugby. Their defence was flawless. They didn't give away any silly penalties, when it could have cost them dearly if they had. They took what few opportunities they did get and made the AB's pay ..... BIG TIME!

As for the AB's. That was the most appalling second rate effort I have witnessed from them for a long time. They looked lost, inexperienced and played silly schoolboy rugby.

As a team of professionals they all need to be fired!!!!!!!! Overpampered, overpayed and OVERRATED!!!!

We just have to face it. The French was clearly the better team on the day, and the result reflected that. The ref made one or two bad calls, (he also missed a forward pass the ABs made and some other minor knock-ons in the rucks that could have cost us). He did not cost us the game. The AB's had one plan... Plan A. There was no Plan B (there hasn't been a plan B for awhile) They suck. The first seed finished 8th, and when you get paid like they do... that kind of result is totally unacceptable.

Chokers? We GAGGED!

Go the French! They deserve to win now.

You really need to watch that game again, because you obviously missed the numerous times the French were off side & not penalised, the numerous they had their hands in ruck, sending off Luke McAlister for doing nothing wrong, yet when they done it & they did, nothing was done!

Do you realise how these terribly bad decisions can totally turn a game? Honestly, your kidding yourself & insulting the majority of people here, if you think that was a fair game, you only posted what you did to in flame the situation & you know it.

Can't help but feel sorry for all the supporters spending tens of thousands of dollars to see the All Blacks win the cup.

Mate I don't need to watch the game again at all. I'm Gutted. No I'm not French. I'm an AB's supporter thru and thru. But you know what I can't abide .... It's a one-eyed view of the world. You can blame the ref all you want. It's not gonna change the result. We had 71% possession and 63% territory and at the end of the day, it's us on the plane back home to NZ.

All you scapegoat seekers out there, see who the AB's are blaming.... themselves. As I said before the French played great rugby. I hope they win.

PS. I'm not trying to flame anyone. Just posting my POV.

I didn't see the match but I asked my kiwi friends regarding this referee and the match , they told, nothing wrong with the referee, its just the All Blacks missed the chance whenever they had and France defensive attack was great.

David Kirk wrote a pretty good summary of the game on rugbyheaven.com.au. Said you couldn't really fault the performance of the ABs (I agree - thought they played well). The decisions handed down by the ref turned out to be crucial in the end, but you have to put yourself in that position in the first place. Just goes to show - you can dominate the lineouts, wheel the scrums, get most of the territory and possession, break the line time and again - and still lose. Must be a rugby match against the french. Interesting to note the reaction of the northern media. The final forward pass has been completely glossed over or missed entirely. If it were the other way round - you would never hear the end of it.

Not only do I have a beef with the ref, I think the linesman's could have more keep an eye on the match, the ref was good for 8 points. I thnik the IRb need to follow through with refs after a game and the TMO allowed to have a word in the refs ear for things the ref doesnt see. I am not just critical of this game I have watched all the WC games and the reffing has been inconsistant. One ref will allow one thing and the other will not. ps. I have reffed before however our sport there are two refs in the game & we work as a team also to ensure a fair game for all. But there is nothing I can do to change history so I will just have to be sad for the next week, well on the bright side 4 years to go for a rematch

Well, I am gutted also, but, not so much as in 1999.

I watched the French play abysmally against Argentina (credit to Argentina though), and their win against a sadly under-performing Irish. However, I remember 99 clearly, and thought as bad as the French may have looked, it would be naive and foolish to count them out. I was never confident the ABs had this one in the bag - way before the game even started. When Argentina beat them in the opening game, I thought - oh no. I really hoped the Irish would come through somehow, and that we wouldn't face France in the quarters. Alas, it's history repeated once again - well done France.

If France (and Aussie) are our WRC bogey team, then the bogey team for Australia must surely be England. I remember when they beat them in 95, and the final in 2003. Now they've done it again 2007.
It's curious because in 91 Australia beat England to take the final, and before that we demolished France in 87 to take that final.

The annoying thing about the French is they have the capacity to pull out brilliant games in-between very average performances - like in 99 when Paddy O'Brien didn't do us any favours by giving them the quarterfinal against Fiji - a shocking display of refereeing that easily eclipses what Barnes did. If only that French team played us in the semifinal!
The problem with playing on passion (or emotion) as the French have been known to do, is that it only works every now and then - you don't win world cups playing one brilliant game in the quarters or semis. Laporte realises this and has tried to bring some structure to their game, at the expense of some of their famed flair.

So now we have a semifinal with two underdogs both on a high after their upset wins. Will be interesting. I hope France go all the way though.
Games are at a decent hour, so I'll be watching live.

Anyway, Deans for head coach (rumour has it that Colin Cooper has already secured a position as an assistant).

People can do whatever they want. People can react to losses the way they see fit. They can even go and post whatever they want on a Wikipedia page, showing the worst side of a fan. But it doesn't mean it will last.

This is not a kiwi thing only... You obviously haven't followed all the "change the guys at the top" requests when a Brazilian soccer team loses a match (well, not as bad as being a Colombian goal keeper)...
