Dingbatt: Hooray! Another rugby world event not decided by a referees call.
Both the winners in the Gold and Bronze medal matches absolutely beanzed their opponents. Well done Fiji.

I'm pretty sure NZ lost 12-7 to Fiji, and 12-10 to both Japan and G Britain (didn't face S Africa) so the margins are small. All you have to do is look at what happened to the NZ eventing team to see what Olympic heartbreak is like.
You have to love the fact that the games aren't decided by someone taking a dive in the penalty box.

As a side note, I had to watch the second half with the sound turned off. Keith Quinn's commentary was so painful it was spoiling the game. Note to Sky Sport, he is well past his use by date.

Yes, Fiji beat NZ 12-7, so we did better against Fiji than Great Britain in the final where Fiji won 43-7. NZ lost 14-12 to Japan and also lost to Great Britain by 21-19, so they didn't lose by much (but even a loss by 1 point is too much in any competition)!

And the fact that South Africa beat Japan by 54-14 shows what can be done against this team!

NZ is regarded as a rugby strong country so if the Olympics are important to us, do we need to set up sevens competitions in our colleges and have people who only play sevens and never compete in the 15's?

7s can be a fickle game when everything is in your favour.

NZRU have prioritises 15s over 7s (rightly so IMO).  This is the result.

Injuries didn't help.

Yes thanks for correcting the scores. I guess my point was both games were lost by missed conversions. However the counter to that is they shouldn't have let it be that close in the first place. Glad it was won by an IRB minnow.
The NZRFU will have to look at how much this damages the All Black brand. Never sat well with me spreading the name round so much. AIG the culprit by the sound of things.

You can't blame AIG ... there are so many players not part of the all black 22/32 that can play. But they chose SBW ... Really?

No. But my comment was to do with the damage to the ABs brand, not suggesting that AIG choose the players. As the principal sponsor they (supposedly) wanted maximum exposure for the brand they were associated with. Hence spreading the ABs moniker as wide as they could. The realities of professional support I guess.

An article discussing the damage featured on the back of this morning's business herald.
