And not to mention that even SkyGo (or iSky back in the day) had lots of trouble underestimating how many concurrent streams there would be. Just shows that live sports streaming is no easy feat!

Can't say I am excited about paying for SKY sport and then having to pay someone else as well.

Also think they are underestimating the ability of of the 'older generation' to hook onto streaming to the TV!

Hopefully Spark has more certainty than Sky?

For some of the games they would expect most/all subscribers to be watching so they know in advance need to provide for that.

SkyGo was a back-up product for many consumers - e.g. we only used ours when we were staying away from home. I imagine this could be hard to predict.

Yes, if you subscribe to SKY sport, your overall viewing costs will increase, that is, unless you cancel SKY in which case you won't be able to watch Super 15 Rugby etc.

With our "trusty" Vodafone internet, TV streaming has been pretty good on the whole, but the internet still goes down from time to time, more often than SKY broadcasts. I would prefer SKY to watching TV internet streaming any day.

Is the RWC internet streaming going to be in high definition, because some internet content is of quite poor quality and rugby needs to be in HD?

TVNZ quote about 350k endpoints use HbbTV (roughly 5%) when it analyses the TVNZ OnDemand usage each month. Is this not a native HbbTV app - and just the catagorisation for SamsungTV's etc?

I know it is early days yet, but here is a couple of things Spark/TVNZ will need to think about.

Currently Freeview TV via satellite is SD - will TVNZ upgrade the broadcast to HD, for at least for the channel broadcasting the sports.
For the streamed games. Will they be saved and made available for n Demand viewing after the game has played.
Will there be an option to "Watch from Beginning" if you start watching a live stream late. Like TVNZ did for a couple of their CWG popup streaming channels.
Rural pubs that can only get ADSL Internet. It will kill the community get to gethers down at the local if they can't stream the rugby reliably and in HD.

At least the RWC is late September, less likley a snow fall will knock out my Satelite reception. :)

And the lightbulb has just lit by the sound of the newer news break mentions.

My thoughts was rural broadband users, Those out of the way restricted by caps for cost. And especially farmers and smaller town people who often makup a number of supporters/families of players with farming and or rural backgrounds.

I understood the number of devices to be slightly above that now. In most homes they're probably the main TV, and anybody who has purchased a TV in the past 3 years will have HbbTV support. The main thing they need to do is make the experience easy for people as rugby is an event people will want to watch on a big screen TV.

there are going to be some very frustrated Rugby fans when they have to move away from Sky , which is idiot proof , and move to streaming to watch the rugby. I would think the majority will just say i cant be bothered to pay $100 extra and the hassle to set up streaming and just watch the free to Air games and delayed games.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

There will most likely be problems with their own setup but they will blame Spark for it.

So 48 games at 90 mins each with non exclusive finals series for $400 (recall how everyone would hang out for $5 Fridays on FanPass cos $15/day or $20/week was eyewatering). Thats double the price that @dafman referenced Consumer for RWC15 c/- FanPass.

How much would he be willing to pay for FIFA18 - 64 games of the beautiful game - do I hear an advance on $600 (thats only $100/week for the tournament)....

Any info on any DRM ? Since It is much easier and cheaper to capture a stream on a PC and restream privately, compared to stripping HDCP and capturing the HDMI output from a sky box that's for sure. Surely they are not going to use the TVNZ on Demand site to protect the content?
