Interesting also most teams/drivers finding their max speed is well down on certain corners compared to last year.
Looks to be due to battery harvesting and saving to deploy on key areas, so hopefully this doesn't come off as the fuel saving seasons we've had previously - where there is racing the first 4 laps, then fuel saving, and then racing when it's basically too late in the last 10 laps...

The ICE output can be routed to charge the battery by the sounds of it, so it's not just charged from breaking kinetic recovery.  That clips the mechanical output significantly too, so these are not the usual F1 cars at all this year, and a range of driving approaches are being investigated to see how to maximise all the pieces into a faster lap time.

Both Alonso and Leclerc are down 50km/hr on some corners for example.  Yes is testing, but vibe seems to be less ICE power this year, with a battery that can be deployed in first 1/3 - 1/2 of straight before it's then depleted.

Hmm... 🤔

I believe this is likely car setup and aero rather than power unit. One may find the car is being driven for corner exit rather than entry or more specifically mid.

The second set of testing at Bahrain should be interesting, especially corners 9 into 10 which tightens up and is off camber.  It will be interesting to see how the rear wings get adjusted.

I laughed at this article from Alonso , https://racingnews365.com/fernando-alonso-issues-humorous-insight-into-new-f1-car-the-chef-could-drive-it

I will wait and see. If many are slower to gather energy, that's a passing opportunity for others. I expect the first few races to be a learning curve, some will adapt better than others. Max and Lewis will be two opposites IMO

But I get the point re fuel saving, maybe all that changes is the fuel type

Saw an add on Instagram for 15% off F1TV, after my subscription had recently auto renewed.

Check and yep it's there on the Premium offering.

Will check if I can upgrade to that at the cheaper price...

Final Testing to kick-off in half an hour. Hoping to see the on-board cams made available this time around, it's only 11 cars they need to provide feeds for, but not holding the breath.

Sadly my excited dreams of Aston Martin succeeding with Alonso seem to be falling apart.
By contrast Ferrari looked to have brought a lot of innovation this year, so I'm switching to Lewis doing well there instead perhaps?🤣

I've supported McLaren since the late '90s when F1 was free to air late at night and Bob McMurry did some of the intro build up with insider news from his contacts in McLaren.  Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard vibes. Todays colourful McLaren papaya team feel a bit different now, and I didn't like how they handled racing with their two children drivers last season if I'm honest.

Anyhow, I'm looking for an underdog story from Aston, Ferrari etc, or McLaren this year 😃

What time will we likely see Drive to Survive Season 8 drop on Netflix NZ?

It normally coincides with midnight US time (I think West Coast?) so I believe it will be 9pm tonight.
