It's not as simple as that. iirc Spark still don't peer properly with other NZ ISPs... so the question will be how will content be delivered? Will they do a good job and use a big CDN, or will they try and fudge it with a DIY job?

It must be tempting to fudge it yourself and blame other ISPs for people going over data caps, poor connection quality from other ISPs etc.

$400 is insane. he has a point regarding the pirates. at $100 , if its 4k, id be tempted away from streaming which is what I currently do.

Juha says a lot of stuff that defies belief. I am not sure how much technical knowledge he has. Considering the roles he has had, it's surprising to me that he would make these statements.

Any info on any DRM ? Since It is much easier and cheaper to capture a stream on a PC and restream privately, compared to stripping HDCP and capturing the HDMI output from a sky box that's for sure. Surely they are not going to use the TVNZ on Demand site to protect the content?

As someone found earlier the infrastructure/ability to do it isn't even in place. DRM is another layer to think about once they even have something

they tried it with the golf and failed and it back on sky and I'm sure it fail now with tvnz and spark as cost of package doesn't reflect value for money it have be at lower price than total cost of sky sport package to even get close to be value for money. I wont be paying for yet another subscription for those games and tv nz coverage be fill of advertising so that can sit were it did 20 odd years ago , which why every nz person moved to sky sadly population of our country not big enough to support more than one and currently sky is got lion share sport so I like many others will be thinking same staying loyal to them once you find out how much you have pay for it yes theirs figures floating of $400 for whole package on new Zealand hearld website so I know were I be if that's case.

No chance I'd pay $400. I'd watch NZ games one way or another and skip the rest of the games. Would be a shame. For $100 I easily see the value even on top of my Sky Sub. Spark say $100 ish, but I'll be surprised if it's not closer to $150.

I've already fielded calls from the in laws about how they're supposed to access the content when their ADSL (all that's available) is 3-4Mbps on a good day with no fiber date in sight.

Good to have the diversification but hard to get people on board when the delivery method is not country wide.

+100 That would be awesome as it would allow access on a lot of modern TVs.

Then add an Android APK and Apple TV app and they've got most of the bases covered.

On Netflix it's easy enough to FF a streamed programme. LightBox is similar although not quite as easy. From memory you have to FF by repeated 30 second jumps with lightbox.

I do hope Spark is up tot he challenge of live streaming sports via an app. No doubt they have developed some capability in their LB team. But massively multi-streaming the same live stream seems like a much bigger ask than the latest episode of Outlander.

Delivery of LB to multiple devices has been lacklustre too (e.g. Android TV boxes).

The Android TV version of Lightbox works really well. Have you tried it out?

Not worth NZD $100 for the tournament personally.

Perhaps NZD $100 for all of the tournaments Spark has purchased, but I won't be paying that much just for RWC.

I can see bar owners now trying to work out how to display it at multiple locations. And praying they aren't subjected to BUFFERING.... with angry non Sky but pub watchers

Bets on a dedicated STB option for them with commercial costing...

Bugger paying $100 for the rights, and then another $100 or so for a STB/Puck device to stream it on your tv, just for Seven AB games.

I wonder if Spark have considered partnering with Sky to offer a Pop up channel for the RWC (at the same price point that they will be offering the streaming rights) - much like Sky do with BeIN sports. It'll make sense, those that have Sky will use familiar technology (My Sky etc), and lowers the amount of bandwidth they need to provide.
