I'm 5'10 or 179cm and like a 460 to 465 reach. My Rail was always a bit short for me (452-457 depending on flipchip), but the next size up was an ungodly 490+. From intial setup I've had the seat slammed as far back as it goes and bars twisted as far forward as they go for length.

I finally got around to swapping the Bontrager 45mm stem to a new raceface 60mm & I moved my seat forward 5mm so can't wait to go for a ride and see how the length feels. 10mm is quite a decent jump and should land me around 462+/-

Handsomedan:

Speaking of wounds and healing...well, not really.

I changed my saddle recently and have done a couple of good long rides (for me) since installing it.

I'm still struggling with finding a saddle that suits my behind, I'm using a Specialised Power Comp saddle but on longer rides I'm still getting discomfort.

I've tried the SDG saddle you've got and its too narrow for me, same with the Ergon SM Enduro.. Pre accident I purchased a WTB Koda saddle which was primary designed for women but apparently works for men as well https://www.wtb.com/products/koda

Yet to try it obviously, but hopefully it's the one.

Any idea what your ape index is? I'm 178cm and umed and ahhed about my most recent bike. It has 448mm reach which feels like plenty. It's up on my old bike at 430mm but amusingly I looked up the effective top tube for both and they are almost identical at 588 and 590 so my actual seated position has barely changed. 50mm stems on both but the newest bike has a steeper seat tube so in essence the bottom bracket feels further back which is the new fangled riding position I guess.

I've ridden a few bikes with longer reaches but really didn't want to stray too far from what I was used to. The crazy thing is I'm on the smaller of the two mediums they make, but people my height are on the larger ones, which is fine, but what do the actual tall people ride??

We have about a dozen saddles at home. I'm lucky enough that I've just ridden whatever came on my bike, so much so that when I've replaced, it's been with the same one. That said, I did spend many years on an SDG I-Beam saddle/post. For those who missed it, I-Beam was different to your standard rail and clamp. And resulted in the hardest saddles known to humankind. So I figure I can ride anything after a decade on that.

The numerous saddles are my other half, who has the opposite experience to me. In fact the most comfortable saddle she's tried is an old Selle Italia model that was high end but well used. But we are still looking, we keep meaning to go get her formally fit for one (beyond just standard seat bone measurements).

I've ended up with a Koda also.  Actually two as I misunderstood the sitbone measurements initially.  But now have the correct width.  Really like it for comfort and while I haven't tested it on a 100km ride yet, was still feeling good after a 3 hour ride.

Oh yeah...forgot the most important bit.

For derailleur, cassette, shifter and chain, it's only:

Seems such a weird thing to have as a limited edition. Drivetrains are wear parts. Imagine a limited edition clutch in your car or something.

I have a rally car, all my clutches are "limited edition".  ;-)

Mostly their lifespan is quite limited.

I was looking at the design of that sram stuff.

back in 1987 I was cycling 60 miles per day (around 100km) return trip to work and back around the back of Heathrow (excluding after work and weekend rides), in the summer  took the touring bike over to France.

i think a lot of touring kit was better quality and much easier to customise back then.  Stuff these days seems quite fragile to me (although I can see the attempt at simplicity and lightness).

Since buying the mountain bike I’ve started hearing this phrase ‘sit bone’ - never heard of it before, took me a while to work out what people were talking about.
