Ragnor:

The longer George doesn't have a contract the more likely Max to Mercedes was the final straw.

100%. George while I dont like parts of him, he has delivered, no question. Mercedes seem to feel that while he is a top known quality, Kimi is favoured for the medium term. Run out 2025, and Kimi isnt a rookie, bedded in, etc

Bottas was better than Kimi, he managed to take out Perez and damage Max in a 1st lap crash.

Plus that new American team start next year.
Daniel Ricciardo, Bottas, Perez, Russell, Hulkenberg all options?

The F1 Show from Sky F1 UK is worth a look if you have the 45 minutes to spare. Brundle, Chandhok, and Kravitz feature with Croft and Slater squatting outside the Red Bull campus. As a good friend of Horner, Brundle is of the opinion that the Verstappen camp were active participants in what has befallen him. Also seems to think the TP opening at Alpine might have Horner back in the paddock sooner than we imagine, though you'd have to believe he will be locked into some period of required gardening leave first.

Could be interesting how his contract at Red Bull is worded in that respect as it might be different in this instance with him being pushed rather than initiating the move away. He's still a Red Bull employee at the moment anyway, they haven't completely pushed him out the door as yet.

Horner's payout and golden handshake are set to be huge considering he had so long left on his contract.

I'd imagine so. Newey was being paid 10 Mill, so that's a guide

Yes, saw that, a good watch, so many moving parts. You'd expect maybe gardening leave till Jan 2026

Toto Wolff spotted boarding max's private jet in Sardinia. Silly season about to kick up a gear.

Nothing new here apart from the $ quoted

Why would they want to settle if they know he is going to jump the fence to another team? he is the guy that knows all the secrets, future plans, all the rules they have been bending over the last 20 years. Drivers jumping ship are one thing, team boss that has been there 20 years is something totally different, he has all the dirt on everyone, including sponsors and officials.

Redbull could really stuff up His plans, they just keep him on gardening leave for the next 5 years. stop him from going anywhere or saying anything to anyone. By then he will be old news.

We know everything about Max moving to Mercedes, just waiting for the "it's signed" and the date

Moving now would make a lot of sense

I imagine gardening leave has a contracted limit, perhaps one year max

Moving before the first couple of races in 2026 makes no sense at all.  All the talk over which team is ahead for next year isn't worth the toilet paper its written on until the cars hit the track next year for points.

If he signs now, he has joined Mercedes. Unless you feel that he will discuss this and that and decide who to sign with in April 2026?  Then move then?

Part of you wants to see what the teams shake out like next year under the new regulations.
The other part knows your current team is in disarray and you want to get out asap.

Getting out earlier allows you to settle into the new team sooner and hit the ground running next year.
