Shiny new kit is shiny.  :-)

What did the fork upgrade end up being?  Did the 2025 version actually fit (and is better) or did Shockcraft end up supplying an upgrade for your trouble?

The 2025 airshaft fitted without issue.
I never did 100% find out what the difference was, but the local bike mechanic who fitted it said it was a "better and slightly improved" airshaft to the one that was stock/what I ordered.

Shockcraft were great - they said get the mechanic to have a look and confirm if it fits and if not, they'd put me right, one way or another.
Great to deal with.

Having a new airshaft resulted in a strip-down and full service of my fork, too, so that was kind of a bonus.

EDIT: AI tells me this:
The 2025 Fox 36 airshaft offers a completely redesigned "Glidecore" air spring for improved low-friction performance and increased stiffness, while the 2019 36 uses an older air spring design; the new 2025 air spring can be retrofitted to 2021-2024 and 2026+ 36 forks. Key 2025 chassis improvements include expanded bushing overlap, inboard bypass channels for better lubrication, and a simpler air cap removal tool.

Awesome.  :-)

Fork rebuild is also nice.  And yep, Shockcraft seem good to deal with.  I get my shock bits from them as needed.

Just doing a quick and dirty spreadsheet for insurance purposes to calculate the retail replacement cost of everything bike related (including all of the recent upgrades).

At full retail, some of this stuff is eye-watering!

On my eBike alone, I have over $1800 (at RRP) of upgrades, many of which I would consider "standard upgrades" when getting a new bike, like pedals, saddle, grips etc.

I never pay full retail for anything and now I know why!!

This belongs in the things that annoy you thread. But the general Geekzone population won’t appreciate it so I’ll put it here for the cyclists.

Planning to go for spin tomorrow since the weather finally looks better. But first I have to update the firmware on my shifters, rear derailleur and power meter.

The cost of progress!

At least the Garmin Edge will wait until after an activity to apply a software update.

But yeah, that's another good reason for me to stay low tech.

Redbull Rampage was held again this weekend, in Virgin, Utah.

Year on year, this competition gets tougher and more extreme, as Freeride melds with Slopestyle.

Effectively, teams of "builders" create a line (or series of lines) in a cliff-filled bluff in Utah.
The eventual rider, rides their unique line a couple of times in the actual competition and is awarded points for a number of aspects - difficulty, tricks, airtime, flow and some other things I can't remember.

This year, Kiwi Robin Goomes won the women's comp again. 2nd year running.

The men's comp was held a day or so after and was filled with delays due to massive crashes, which resulted in at least two riders being airlifted off the mountain and straight to hospital.

There was some epic riding though...

World on the street says Adolf Silva wants to double flip this massive drop in tomorrow s final

Sheesh ! The jumps are spectacular, especially when they go well. I find these events hard to watch now that I know how hard the ground is :-)

And you have to make sure everything is charged up as well.

Not sure if I mentioned this but my friend told me he has a bluetooth seat dropper. I didn't know they were a thing but they are, and as mentioned, if you don't charge it up, you have to do your whole ride at one seat height :-(

Some good news from Rampage re the victims of the more spectacular and worrying crashes:

Emile Johansson only dislocated his hip, but will need some surgery for some bone fragments. His was the accident that sent him off th4e side of a cliff and stopped short of falling into oblivion.

Adolf Silva has posted to social media that he is doing better than expected, but has sustained a lower back injury. I'd say he's lucky to have use of his limbs after that crash!

So went to Rotorua for the Whaka. This was my third attempt at the 50km after two DNFs with cramps. Finished this one, but good god it was unpleasant. Cramps the last two hours. On my hands and knees at one point. What is most frustrating is that I don't ever cramp on training rides.

Honestly felt like all the training was pointless as I felt flat right from the start. A mate did the 100 so it was good to see him across the line. But I really don't think I'll do it again. Not enough decent trails and boring bits on the road. And obviously the last five km is probably the toughest of the lot (not to mention it was actually 56kms).

We did thirty kms of riding and shuttles on the Monday and it made me realise how little I enjoy spending hour after hour managing heart rate, legs and nutrition!

Hopefully some of you enjoyed it!

At a guess, from personal experience, your hydration and fueling needs work.

I say that as someone who is still working on those two things for endurance events and has suffered in much the same ways.  What I thought was "on point" at things like 50km Ultras was actually "getting away with it" which became very obvious when I stepped up to 100km and was very much under hydrating even though I was following my plan.

Then again, at Faultline where I DNF'd the 100km MTB event, due to dehydration.  Turns out that pre-hydrating is also important and that the day before, coffee x2, V x1 and hot chocolate x1 is not sufficient.  Who knew?  ;-)

But yeah, there's many factors at play when you do endurance stuff and even if you do everything right, on the day it just might not work.

Doesn't he have a spinal injury with no sensation from chest down? So game over for his MTB career unfortunately..

I'm not a fan of rampage, and this just reinforces it really..

Yeah all that stuff does my head in. Went through 4 litres and about 360g of carbs. I'm not actually sure I can get more in 🤢
