Sainz was trying to pass Liam. Liam was ahead at the apex. It was Liams corner. Sainz knows the rules. Not Liams fault

of course it was his corner, but if he saw Sainz alongside and still moved across midcorner into Sainz path then he did play a part in ruining his car, but maybe he didn't see Sainz, but being an F1 driver i think you'd see him

If Liam just lets Carlos go then all it does is tell all the drivers to put their car in that spot and Liam will bail out and let them go.  Much better for any driver to have a reputation to be fighting for everyplace rather than a soft touch who will always let them go.

I think Carlos is just having a tough year and making sometimes average decisions

he could have ushered Sainz onto the gravel instead of side swiping him. Max does this all the time.

Lawson does a Nascar move and takes himself out again

?

Ive only just watched the race, but thats incorrect.

You seem to be anti Liam based on previous posts, although you throw in the Go Liam at times, #justsaying

Liam owned the corner. He was behind another car, got dirty air, and had a rear end moment, that caused him to hit Sainz. It wasnt intentional or out of control, it was a racing incident. I dont agree with Sainz's penalty, stewards see to think he should not have been there, but thats silly. Sainz being the signature signing that is failing to deliver is why he commented as he did.

When you watch Liam's onboard, just before the impact he glances in his left mirror (so presumably knows Sainz is there), then immediately turns his steering wheel noticeably to the left, which is when the contact happens. So it appears (regardless of who's corner it was), this caused the contact and ultimately the loss of of a strong position that could have resulted in points even if Sainz had got past. And even if it was to correct understeer, that was the end result.

Also, after the incident and on the limp back to the pits there appeared to be radio silence from Liam, usually he is pretty vocal on calling the other driver out.

Bolded, yes he did. Watch Chandhoks replay, got dirty air and had to correct a wayward rear end

Not debating blame, it's just a shame that the apparent actions resulted in loosing a strong position. Even if legally he can make that move, it didn't work out well.

The car made the move

Thats a quick switch. yes he saw Sainz the camera showed that. Did Liam decide to move over???

Loved Villeneuves commentary. Tells it like it is rather than a PR response. Took Simon by surprise.

Hate the pro UK bias. yes, Sky F1 is UK, Lando is UK, but get over it. Race over, "lets congratulate Oscar and Hadjar" but lets talk about the news of the day, Lando's DNF. Painful. Glad Jenson wasnt there

F1TV commentary is far less biased, but I do miss Rosberg and Villeneuves.

Disappointing end to the race, Oscar now has to subsidise Lando. The way Oscar responded to Valsecchi showed it all.

Lando fine to let Oscar pit first as there wont be an undercut. Lando then had a pitstop issue that Oscar has to pay for.

Let them race? Yeah, nah

As Oscar pointed out on the radio, he thought that slow pit stops where not the fault of pitting first and then not undercutting... I get that the team caused the error and wanted to ensure that that error was minimised but it must feel a bit off to Oscar.

Good drive by Max, the RBR is great in low trim but seems to struggle elsewhere for this season.  Drivers are getting a bit petulant with each other down the midfield, cutting people off, closing the door when not safe... shows how close the cars are these days that the field spread over one lap is so close and even during the race.. the DRS train caused by Borteletto showed this up in my opinion.

It was the right thing for the team to do. It was so wrong to do.

If Oscar is leading and pits first and has a slow stop, they will hold Lando to make it fair. Not till hell freezes over.

I heard Oscar has in his contract that there won't be a clear number 1 and 2 at McLaren, and with Mark Webber as his manager that sounds reasonable given his back story at Red Ball.

It's a nightmare to manage though, and McLaren are looking silly with their we have 2x Number 1 drivers concept.
Todays shenanigans were a mess there.

A least Max helped them out by limiting the difference to 3 points. A 1 - 2 swap would have hurt more.
