One thing that irritated me was Brundle (who I really like) His argument was that Lando missed out on the 1.9 pitstop and got the slow pitstop. Thats a crazy thing to say

This shouldn't be hard to manage, let them race. Let SC, VSC, pitstops,. self mistake sor mistakes caused by others occur naturally. Thats racing. But no, its now scripted races for the Brit in the Brit team, supported by the Brit commentators

Let them race (when it suits)

McLaren made a rod for their back with Will Joseph saying "there'll be no undercut". So they had to have the drivers swap back. Thats all there is to it really. You can not like it. The fact is its a team sport and the team has its say (in this case).

Bung:

A least Max helped them out by limiting the difference to 3 points. A 1 - 2 swap would have hurt more.

Oscar-Max-Lando or the reverse, a lot of twists to come

Max implied they are still finding solutions, perhaps a little more creative with Mekies there. Assuming they will be better in low downforce races from here, its going to be awkward

Prior to this race Lando needed to average a gain of 4 points per weekend to win the Drivers by 2 points. Thats gone backwards a little.

There wasnt an undercut the way the race was going, and they had a few laps in hand before LeClerc was a potential threat.

Team sport yes, but the team trophy is already decided, now the team is scripting the drivers. A bit of backlash online too

The comms offering Lando a do you want to pit first or Oscar, and then Lando saying yes but only if there's no undercut etc just showed a pretty wishy washy way of running things.

Lando was leading, pull him in, get's benefit of 1 extra lap on fresher tyres.
Oscar to follow.

They made their bed and it all got messy.

Yep. The undercut comment was reasonable, and it was also factual, no problem, no threat of that. The pitstop broke it all as it can and does do for many drivers in many races, that's racing. Unless a team is scripting their ideal end of season result

Except an undercut did occur. That is the point!

It doesnt matter what the cause is/was (a slower than expected pit stop). It occurred. McLaren then believed they'd wronged Norris and so fixed it. People can dislike it all they want. Not really gonna change anything.

The traditional use of undercut is, well, the undercut of two competing BAU 2.5 second pitstops to gain a tyre and speed advantage. The slow pitstop is just a slow pitstop, like any other race luck

Yes it wont change anything, but the let them race is now a misnomer for McLaren. Papaya rules, I thought, was let them race just don't hit each other. Not the case, its about preferential treatment, aka team orders. Brit Team, Brit Driver and so on.

While we may comment this or that way, McLaren needs to state its using team orders to set whatever goal they have decided on. Would Oscar be getting this treatment if he was 34 points behind? No way. Lando, is the dream result, pure and simple, but McLaren, don't say otherwise as you arent practicing what you are preaching

Why wouldn’t they just pit Lando first though?

So weird. They brought this on themselves, again.

Dumb decision by McLaren embarrassing for Lando - this is going to blow up sooner or later.

You have to laugh when the Tifosi boo Lando on the podium and chant DU DU DUDU Max Verstappen lol

Anyway champs don't gift their competition free points. Very surprised Oscar said OK fine, suspect Webber will be having a word in the background post race.

Max's reaction to GP telling him they swapped, also hilarious!

Ferrari also idiotic for not getting Lewis to give LeClerc a tow to try get pole, he already had the 5 place penalty.

McLaren are trying to over-engineer this title race. Should never have swapped Piastri and Norris back after the bungled pit-stop. Wasn't Piastri's fault the pit crew couldn't execute correctly, that's just motor racing sometimes. All this rubbish about "fairness" is exactly that.

Happy to see the "karma police" came for Sainz courtesy of Bearman after all his whining the past week. I see he was happy to bring out his favourite party trick of sitting on the racing line when other drivers are trying to execute a push lap as well. He's got some nerve criticising other drivers.

Was that Lawson's worst weekend of the season? Thought it was a stupid strategy to start on softs, never seemed a high probability of it paying off and he wasn't able to make any passes with the tire advantage. The move on Tsunoda was very clumsy, surprised the Lawson haters on the internet haven't made more of it to bash him some more.

Liam, well, that strategy never seems to work

the even more stupider strategy is not changing to new power units when you are already at the back

Not really, you "may" have a chance of a point, maybe. Better to change the PU before quali and hope you do well, and quali in 7th or 8th then use the new PU
