Wow P3!  yes a bit of luck but he went through unscathed and he got 3rd best time of the Q3 cars. He has been really solid all weekend

A let off for Oscar, that Lando failed to deliver the he had the chance to put a good number of cars between him and Oscar, bit of a fail there. Pole to front row was thrown away.

Racing Bulls is very decent, so they wont fade away to 10th in this race. Just hope they nail the strategy.

What an awesome result for Lawson, the beneficiary of a bit of luck for sure but that's motor racing. Incredibly happy for him and all his supporters, hope he can bank some big points tomorrow.

Great week for the Hastings sportsmen with Geordie Beamish as well.

not sure it was luck, he set is P3 time at the end at the same time as everyone else inc Norris etc. so he beat everyone who was trying at the time, bar Max Verstappen. (and Sainz earlier)

also helps that he didn't touch the wall when everyone else were grinding the walls into powder. hope not a flash in the pan! i might take a nap this arvo to watch him tonight ...

I'd imagine Lawson and Verstappen will be expecting some help from Hadjar and Tsunoda to hold up some of the chasing pack. It's going to be difficult though with the longest straight in F1.

Lawson's greatest strength is generally his race pace and his ability to soak up pressure and not make mistakes while under the pump from a chasing driver. I hope Racing Bulls will turn up his PU for the race and be prepared to expend it after this weekend in pursuit of a top finish tonight.

A little nervous about Antonelli being right there, given he has already torpedoed a couple of drivers this season with crazy moves. The shots of Hadjar beating up on his steering wheel when he made a mistake in qualifying were interesting, not the attitude to have if he's going to the top team and the prospects for mistakes will be much more frequent.

Dare to dream I suppose, if everything goes his way and Lawson can secure a top five finish I think that decides his 2026 seat with the team.

My dare to dream is that the top 3 get away well. RBR21 has great top end speed as does Williams, as does RB. Max leads, tows Carlos, Liam gets a double tow. "If" those three can break the DRS to 4th, thats huge. Although yellow/red will no doubt come into play, but they could repeat the tows again.

McLaren is down on top speed, that "could" rule them out of the podium. They showed Max's and Lando's best lap. In the 2.2km straight Max had no row but Lando did, didnt help Lando. IIRC Max drew away slightly, might be wrong there, but end of the day a tow wasnt the deal it is for the top three.

The luck was Oscar was out as were both Ferrari's, but as you say, he did the lap time, so it was on merit for him. Hadjar 6/10 behind Liam, thats handy

Exactly, the luck element was in those more fancied drivers who you might expect to put in better times but couldn't match it or crashed out entirely. Albon had been on it all weekend up to that point. Hadjar was on the same time as Lawson in his final run until the mistake that had him belting the wheel. However, Lawson has looked rock-solid in every session, only tapped a wall once but looked like he was on rails the rest of the time. His quali lap was entirely on skill and merit.

In the start tonight he's behind Verstappen on the grid so just try to follow him into T1. It's a left hander but P1 and P3 on the grid start on the right hand side giving them the optimal wider line through T1 and potentially T2. He will have to be mindful of Sainz on his left. It's a short run to T1 so Sainz is likely to be alongside Lawson rather than wholly in front. There's also the problem of Antonelli dive bombing up the inside into T1 and t-boning Lawson if he gets it wrong.

Just hope the three of them can get away clean.

Still not sure it's luck that Oscar hit the wall. Oscar hit the wall more than once in FP1, hit the wall more than once in FP2, hit the wall more than once in FP3, hit the wall more than once in Quali. It was his destiny.

This is Verstappen's race to lose , he will have two of the slower cars behind him holding up the field and Liam has shown he is really tough to get past

It's almost like he's forgotten how to drive. I am sure he'll pick himself up and back to his normal self next time out. Very strange from Oscar.

He was probably 'overdriving' the car given the McLarens poor performance generally... and trying to recover from his false start too.

It was interesting to see how fast the faster cars are generally and how much Williams et al have to improve to reach that level - Albon and Hadjar where probably in the right place for the car performance if the other top teams had sorted themselves out.

I saw that Lewis slowed down towards the finish line - was he trying to let Charles past?

Lewis was instructed to swap the positions back with Charles - but Hadjar was only a couple seconds behind Charles so he was being conservative and didn't quite manage to make the swap before the line.  Charles didn't seem very worried about it in the interviews after the race - 8th or 9th doesn't really change anything

Great P5 result from Lawson, was having to actively mange his energy throughout the lap so he could deploy it on the straight going into turn 1. Good points haul as well. Glad i got up to watch that race live.

Top drive. Typically they defend and lose lap time, apart from a couple of times he focused on the best lap time to keep some distance from his chasers, excellent on traction when needed. David and Goliath car wise

I watched it live as well. The 11pm start is much easier on the body than the 1-2am starts haha
