How did McLaren get that so so wrong? They've got to get a new strategist as they keep making these mistakes. Often just not bold enough as a team. That said; really glad its going to the last race and any of 3 could win it!

Commentary made a good point in regards to missing the stop. If the driver's championship was more clear cut they probably would have just yelled box instantly. Whereas they probably had to think and decide who would be affected by the double stack (IE Lando).

Lando wasnt right up the gearbox of Piastri, I dont think the double stack was that bad of an option. Plenty of other teams managed it.

Lando is cracking a bit, messed up both last Q3 runs.

What? He was on provisional pole after the first Q3 runs. I wouldnt say he's cracking. Quite the opposite over the last few races where he's been driving like a champion - Oscar had been the one cracking.

Agree. They stated they thought only half the would would pit, big assumption that, once one does most will to avoid the loss of a cheap stop. They also thought their pace would get it back, that was also wrong as Lando couldn't pass Kimi until Kimi made an error.

Possibly they didnt have enough time to rethink what they had assessed pre race for an early safety car, so struck with the original plan?

If Max wins next week, Lando just has the be third. Fourth, and he loses by one point. Hard to see Lando 4th or worse, but the luck of a DNF or a failure or an incident that puts him back many places looms large. Oscar wont be any help, as they restated they are free to race. Lando will be under the ultimate pressure, that no one else will be, they will just go hard

 they favour Lando

 they decided to give equal treatment to both drivers by not pitting and compromising lando but what they are doing is destroying Oscar’s challenge on the title to protect lando

I don't think McLaren favour Lando, I think they favour Max.
Avoiding conflict is also going to avoid either of their drivers achieving WDC.

That was painful to watch.  Pathetic comes to mind, really failed to read the room.
Still wonder if there's something in Piastri's contract from Mark Webber about no favourites/no #2 driver etc as this has been especially painful this season.

Flip side too was Oscar came to grips with the car really early on, dominating for quite a while before Lando turned it up like he did last year too.  Plank issue sees double DQF and then suddenly Oscar is right back to the front.  Lando was quick in qualifying though, just couldn't string his runs together in Q3.  Whole thing is odd, I'm looking forward to reading what's really gone on this season in a few years time. The teams handling here has been really poor, almost like they're not ready to be playing at this level yet strategy and driver management wise.

Separately, bring in mandatory max laps in Monaco?  Was a bit artificial here but did help spice up a track that otherwise was going to be a complete bore fest.

They said in FP sessions it was for mediums that are an issue, maybe i missed then it was for all tyres. But no way was it a wear issue, hards will be fine. Hopefully its to improve the spectacle

Turn 1 action. hours lol of tyre management. I'd rather have racing for all laps, than just the first lap and the last 10

Great result for the WDC taking it right down to the wire. Wouldn't bet against Verstappen pulling off the biggest heist in recent memory now. And, proof-positive that McLaren is in-fact a Brit run team despite the name and the Kiwi on the badge. Floor planks last week, poor strategy this week, continuing to shoot themselves in the foot at every opportunity.

Decent result for Lawson, the beneficiary of a little luck along the way but he's been on the wrong end of that many times so fair's fair. Mugged by Bearman again through the first few turns.

Red Bull making their driver announcements on Tuesday, European time. Lawson on 38 points, he's done enough to deserve another season. Will be very interesting to see who is alongside him. Don't think Lindblad has done nearly enough to be belting down the door for promotion, but another crazy Marko decision probably awaits. Can't forget Lindblad was beaten to a race win here last summer by an Aussie tin-top driver in his first open wheeler drive on a busman's holiday.

As the senior driver next season I wonder if Lawson will get to pick the side of the garage he wants, or he's just expected to continue where he is. Do think Pierre Hamelin is a superior race engineer to Desiderio and it has been to Hadjar's benefit to be on that side of the garage. But for Marko and Horner stuffing up the decision and promoting Lawson instead of Tsunoda at the start of the year, the Kiwi would have had Hamelin in his camp this season.

Odds on it will be Lindblad & Lawson on Racing Bulls, Max and Isack on RBR.

The TAB odds on WDC are interesting...

Lando = $1.30

Max = $3.50

Oscar = $12

I'd have a wee flutter on both Max & Oscar, there is no value in Lando. Mechanical, Puncture, Damage, Penalty... Anything could happen and I honestly still think Oscar has a chance to take the WDC if he wins the race. There is going to be so much pressure on that first corner.

Time for a certain someone to retire, the program may have been working but the support stopped when they jumped into the frying pan of F1 teams and got burnt.  Red Bull have been through so many good drivers when you look back, but just used and abused them really.  Definitely a fast track program to F1, but then not supported when they arrived.  hASS was similar too.

Separately - Ferrari, 2026 can't come fast enough there.  Their car looked like it was on ice most of the weekend, the poor drivers working overtime just to keep it pointed in the right direction.  An onboard I saw of Charles (?) falling down the order early on in the race was ridickulous.

Just what F1 needs, another up-themselves Brit driver. Lawson will need to get his foot on Lindblad's throat early and keep it there. Lindblad loves the steward's office, could be facing a race ban by the summer break if he gets promoted. At least he will be someone for Colapinto to race against at the back of the field.

So close to finishing now, bottom seat mounts and fuel tank to go!

i think Lewis will do well next year if he gets a better team behind him. Whilst some of his diving hasn’t been on par in general, he’s also had a mega run of bad luck and I also question the communication within his team, maybe a new engineer might help.

Going to run the kart at Rotorua this coming weekend, assuming the replacement ignition coil I got works, haven’t fired up this engine yet 😳
