V8 Supercars Bathurst 1000 is on in 65 days.... yet no word if NZ will be getting live FTA broadcast.......  messages to Prime/Sky get no response.

Anyone know if it will be FTA this year ?

Its probably the one sports event I watch live each year, so dont tell me to get Sky :)

And if thats their attitude, I never will be ;)

If they cant answer a simple customer query, then its very poor, how can they attract new customers ?

Anyway, Im not here to argue that, I just want an answer so I know if I have to find a decoder/account to borrow for the weekend :)

Isn't it always on FTA? My neighbour doesn't have Sky, and he always watched it. TV One from memory

TV3 had the rights for many years (2007 I think it started) but the rights went to Sky Sport from this year

Response...

"Thank you for your email.

We do not have rights for Live coverage of the V8 races on Prime. However, we will have highlights of the main races and it is covered on our SportBox section on Sundays at 10:30 PM on Prime TV. "

Well. That bites.

Time to grease upto some friends.

It will be on a streaming site like wiziwig.tv i'm fairly sure.

Pretty much every PPV I've wanted to watch has been on there.

Can't wait to see a delayed selective highlights package in full HD on prime, because I've got freeviewHD, so that will mean it's all in HD right. And surround sound too, because freeview HD does that too did you know? Oh and if we could cut to a news broadcast right at the business end of the day, that would be awesome too.

Great. Now to find a legal free version for everyone else!

BigHammer: Great. Now to find a legal free version for everyone else!

IANAL but  from everything I can read, watching an foreign internet stream is not illegal in NZ. It's possible (probably even) that the person creating the stream is breaking the laws in their country, but that's pretty much irrelevant. The person in NZ watching the stream is not breaking any laws. If watching a stream that the copyright owner didn't want you to watch was in itself an illegal act, then all the members on GZ who use netflix, hulu, etc would equally be criminals.

Does that mean that when someone streams Game of Thrones, Walking Dead etc that they are not breaking the law? So it is only breaking the law if you keep a copy?

I like the sound of that!
