So it sounds as though (via Devlin on radiosport) Bein have done a deal with Skodafone and there'll be a couple of new/popup channels showing football; one EPL and one other Euro leagues... guess I'll be keeping my decoder then!

Sounds promising. I'd love to see some Eredivisie back on Sky.

$199 for the season last year from PLP.
$180 for the season from beinconnect or $12/mth on top of an existing sky subscription (for EPL, more European matches and pop up channels).
How is this a bad thing? Its an improvement on the last 3 years unless you were happy just watching the four clubtv coverages on Sky last year.

I consider it a bad thing because three years ago it was included as part of the Sports package. Now they want an extra $12 and at the $95 odd /mnth I'm already paying I don't believe I'm getting value for money.

Yep, 3 years ago the country rejoiced at the prospect of competition in supplying sports to households. But we either had to settle for substandard product (the clubs packages) or buy from two suppliers to get our sporting fix. Not to mention having to get extra hardware for the TV or be stuck watching it on a crappy PC screen.
And the world will never be the same - we'll have to keep buying from two suppliers evermore (now buying the extra package through Sky who is just onpaying to BeIN). Aint competition GRAND? How do you think it's gonna be if we have to buy the rugby and/or the league and/or the cricket separately too??? [be careful what we wish for]
If you dont think you're getting value for your $95/mth then cancel and get BeIN connect.
EDIT: but at least we're still getting the PremLeague. A few weeks ago it looked like we were getting nothing for 3 years. And at least we dont have to be a telco customer like the Aussies to get sport.

Yep, nail hit on head there ockel.
I was somewhat excited by the prospect of the EPL coming back to a platform I already subscribe to, but that was quelled by the news of having to pay extra. I'm not a big enough fan of the EPL to justify paying extra for it.
If the Dutch Eredivisie was included in one of the channels I would reconsider but it appears it is not so the decision is easy.
As mentioned, I don't consider $95 particularly good value for money, but I don't think there are any viable, affordable alternatives at the moment and I'm still prepared to pay it. (BEin sport doesn't tick all the boxes...and is it even available here in NZ?)

From what I understand BeIN Connect will be available in NZ showing the content in a style consistent with what PLP offered. On the radio it was estimated at $18/mth, from the Dom it was stated at about $20/mth. I expect that BeINconnect and the channels on Sky will be revealed at the same time. There is no announcement from BeIN as yet - and nothing in terms of media releases or anything from BeIN. The only information that has been forthcoming has been from Sky. Its a wait and see I guess.
BTW, FanPass is our viable affordable alternative. $55/mth for 3,000 hours of sport per month (vs the $95/mth your paying for 5,000 hours of sport (plus I'm guessing MySky and the PVR ability it adds, and the OnDemand sport - now including some full matches not just highlights!))
