A bit late to the party but, does anyone think or feel that the referees are biased against Tonga?

A few things went against them and England snuck through - it felt like they really wanted England to be in the Final and really did not want Tonga in the Final.

But that's coming from a non league watcher so I don't know if these decisions are normal or not.

The Tongan's really only got going with 10-15 minutes left to go, so it's hardly the refs fault.

The last call was dubious, probably should of been referred seeing as even the most obvious tries are usually referred in league these days..

The big boss of the referees was on RNZ this morning.    He said the ref. got it exactly right & he had reviewed the footage.    Why the ref. did not refer it to the video ref. he didn't explain.    Maybe the ref. thought it was clear cut & didn't need to?

That guy was a knob, as the replays clearly show the England player attacking the ball during the tackle.  League is a strange sport in that it has guidelines around stripping for lost-forwards etc.  With that in mind how he can say he got it right is beyond me, and how it didn't go upstairs is ridiculous.

EDIT: Watch from 43s unfortunately BBcode strips out the tag to start it at that time

Ref errors happen. Rugby, league, boxing it happens all the time. Every time team "X"s lose,  the ref is blamed. The ref is blamed in most boxing matches I've ever watched. If there is no ref error, someone will blame him. Tongans need to balance the emotion with reality

No disagreement tdgeek I think everyone recognises they will not change the match outcome, but you are allowed to ask the question as to was the right call made. I think there is a fair grievance that it didnt go upstairs.  I also think the reff boss is spouting on how it was the right call to make is garbage.  The right call would be to send it upstairs, do away with the controversy and then decide based on looking at the replays, which for me show a strip.
