Thoughts on if it is worth buying a RWC pass on Spark ?
Take the pricing out of the equation my concerns are the time difference and that the big games will be on free to air anyway.
I am just not sure which games or stages are on normal tv ?

I would like to know others thoughts around purchasing a pass for the RWC ?
Thanks

It's only $60 at the minute, so worth it IMO.  I don't like rugby but I bought it for my wife who loves it.

There is plenty of discussion in the Spark Sport RWC thread  and the press release is here:

https://www.sparknz.co.nz/news/Rugby_World_Cup19/

The advice I gave my father-in-law was:

- how important is live coverage?  If you're comfortable with a 1 hour delay and you'd normally record the matches on a PVR to watch at your leisure then you're probably wasting your cash.

- Do you want to watch anything other than the All Blacks?  If not, then you're probably wasting your cash.

- Do you normally stream content and/or are you happy to sort out any issues with streaming?  Do you need to buy any extra equipment (in his case he'd need a chromecast - which would be used for just the tournament and a waste of money for his viewing purposes)?

Rugby World Cup matches broadcast free to air on TVNZ 1 and streamed on Spark Sport free-to-view

  • Friday 20 September / Pool A, Match 1 (opening match) / Japan v Russia / LIVE
  • Saturday 21 September / Pool B, Match 4 / NZ v South Africa / Delayed by 1 hour
  • Saturday 28 September / Pool C, Match 13 / Tonga v Argentina / LIVE
  • Wednesday 2 October / Pool B, Match 20 / NZ v Canada / Delayed by 1 hour
  • Friday 4 October / Pool B, Match 23 / South Africa v Italy / LIVE
  • Sunday 6 October / Pool B, Match 27 / NZ v Namibia / Delayed by 1 hour
  • Wednesday 9 October / Pool D, Match 32 / Fiji v Wales / LIVE
  • Sunday 12 October / Pool B, Match 34 / NZ v Italy / Delayed by 1 hour
  • One quarter final: TBC, but will be the NZ match, assuming the team progress past the pool stage / Delayed by 1 hour
  • Saturday 26 October / Semi-finals, Match 45 / LIVE
  • Sunday 27 October / Semi-finals, Match 46 / LIVE
  • Saturday 2 November / Final, Match 48 and medal ceremony / LIVE

At $60 it was cheap enough that it wasn't something to consider for too long, but I am a big Rugby fan. I have subscribed to another service incase Spark don't deliver, so I can ensure I get to see the matches. It's less than $10 a week in entertainment.

Having said that, it depends what you want and @ockel summed it up pretty fairly.

I've bought it. Think it's very good value at the current price.

Kayo has it, and included in the base package so you get access to other sports for the one price. That's how I'll be going.

And ITV has it for free.

As does SuperSport South Africa, J Sports, NHK and EirSport Ireland.

If you're gonna bother with a VPN to watch it, why bother with Kayo.  There is a step-by-step guide on How To Watch Rugby World Cup 2019 In New Zealand if you want to go looking for it.

If you're gonna bother with watching RWC, why bother with risking your experience being runnined by buffering with a vpn link?

I think most of us know what a VPN is and how to use it.
However my post is not related to this and as the above quote says why ruin the experience.

Prefer the post was kept on topic.
Thanks

Does anyone know whether the Spark Streams will have ads during the games?

I would’ve expected not, however given the price, maybe.

sky typically has an ad midgame... It's always my favorite part ;)

I'm not aware of any plans to run ads however, I'm on the assumption that there won't be. but that's me assuming things rather than reporting on anything internally.

His post was on topic.

No, not all of us know what a VPN is (ok, yes we do) and know how to use it. Yes, but we also get many posts on bad issues with it. The thread is buy or not buy RWC, well it will be a better experience than via VPN with different commentary. This is assuming that there are no streaming issues. The last F1 weekend went through with less than a murmur on issues. I never saw one issue. One fella has a CC issue, it looks like in the home which we have been discussing and helping.

Just my opinion.
