The boss is 40 next year.

We are looking at a trip across to Singapore, as its a place we are quite interested in visiting.

Since it's her 40th, a little splash out is justified.

Has anyone stayed at Marina Bay Sands hotel? Opinion if you have...

Travelling march 2020.

Any tips or advice on travelling in Singapore in general.

cheers

L

Stayed there a few years back, VERY nice hotel. The pool was then only available to guests and the views were stunning. It is all very pricey tho, There is a mall joined to it with alot of food places that were all top notch but ouch on the price.

The MRT I found to be nice and clean, easy to use etc etc Nice way to explore the city

I went to a conference in Singaporr about 5 years ago which was centred on the conference centre which is close to Marina Bay Sands and some of my colleagues stayed there.

Their impression was mixed. Because it us an iconic building there were lots if tourists wandering around just looking at the building, especially the view from the pool on the roof.

But it does seem to get good reviews on google. I stayed just around corner at Ritz Carlton which was fine. Daughter spoilt by staff with free ice creams.

Use the underground to get round as the heat made walking distances trying. Acquarium was a hit , the zoo less so most likely because of traffic jam getting there so mojo lost prior to arrival.

Felt very safe though.

Had two stays there (and I think once I couldn't go to a product launch @nate had the chance too). Beautiful rooms, extremely well cared for. Make sure to visit the infinity pool and the bars on the rooftop. Excellent shopping and if you have budget, there's the casino there too. What else can we say? It's pretty much top of the world...

Used cabs a couple of times as well as underground. Shopping is intense. Food is amazing. You might be disappointed with the Singapore Sling at Raffles though.

Stayed there once. Nice place but expensive. Pool gets packed esp over weekend. Seats were at a premium.

Be careful with rooms. Our first room was low and faced the gardens. Whilst looking at the gardens at night is great you have a busy motorway on that side so you get a lot of noise if you are close to the ground.

We complained about the noise and to their credit they moved us the next night to the bay side and higher which was great.

Have also stayed at mandarin oriental and pan pacific which are both nearby and great hotels.

Yes, stayed at the Mandarin once (on my first visit to Singapore) and the location is really handy. Great hotel too.

Yep went with wife in April this year stayed at MBS, fantastic in pool at top, can only enter with door passes.

Taxis cheap, train easy. Did China town, Jurong Bird Park (get bus), Little India, Night safari, went to Sentosa on cable car,saw Merlion & old miltary place at end, Zoo, Gardens and botanc gardens next door and entry into those places are great, high up walk.

Orchard road shopping, very clean place, nice people, good weather,. Singapore Sling at Raffles is $30, Singapore Sling at top of MBS is $30

Most people know Singapore iconic landmark is the Marina Bay Sands now, before the hotel build most tourist know about the Merlion statue.

Personally I think it's worth just to treat her for one in a lifetime to stay in the Marina Bay Sands, at least you & her can tell everyone you been there and stayed there once before.

The one Michelin star chicken rice cheap too, can't find such cheap chicken rice in NZ at all.

Eat chicken rice and definitely some chili crab from a local hawker stall (Carry a little bag of napkins to reserve your seat)

PS Marina Bay Sands is awesome.

We were just there last month - outside was veery hot but when is it not! We decided to pay a bit more and stay at one of the higher standard rooms (booked 2 rooms for 4 people) facing the city. Got lucky at check-in and they upgraded us to a suite, which we were truly blown away by! It was unfortunate that we only stayed for one night just to access the pools, which is the average nights people tend to stay at MBS according to the check-in guy.

After heading up to the pools at the top (which you need your room key to access) and checking out both the city and garden views, would much prefer the city view IMO.

I have stayed at most of the hotels in the area but not the Sands itself (though there are a number of amazing restaurants there I have eaten at). You can't really go wrong with any of the 5 star hotels there, honestly, they are all top notch. Your wife would be impressed and happy at all of them, pretty sure. Mandarin Oriental is one of my favourite brands of Hotel, and the Singapore one isn't quite as good as say Vegas or Tokyo (Which I consider the best hotel I've stayed at from many I have tried).

The Pan Pacific is also very good. The MBS is more of a "location and experience" hotel, the hotel is less impressive than the complex it's attached to, if you like that sort of thing.

We stayed a while ago out on Sentosa Island - that was really nice, we also really enjoyed the night tour of the zoo.

Maybe think about going up to Penang or Langkawi, they are about an hour on the plane, we went there 18months ago and had a great time.

Yeah, stayed there and have the same advice as above (don't miss the pool/roof-top bar) though I *think* non-guest visits are now available at a cost.

I've also stayed that the Ritz Carlton which used to claim to be the only "6 star" hotel in Singapore.  (Awesome restaurant)

As noted taxis (and MRT) are safe and convenient.  We have always used 'Grab' cars on recent visits though.

If you like shopping, a quick trip over to the 'Premium Outlet' mall in Johor Bahru (very bottom tip of Malaysia) could be considered ... it's a good day trip from Singapore
