The best way to avoid having id checked is to check in online and do not check in baggage. If you check in online and go straight to the gate with a printed boarding pass, you will be fine.

I flew jetstar domestic AKL-CHC return recently, and was kind of shocked when I had to produce ID. So yes it happens.

Lias:

rendezvous: Getting yourself into an aviation security area by deception probably would not be taken lightly.

For domestic flights, you are not required to present any proof that you are flying, let alone ID, to pass through security screening. I fail to see how you would be entering an Aviation Security Area by deception.

I'm pretty sure the law says to be in a secure airside area (which is designated by a sign saying as such at screening) that you a) need a CAA ID card or b) need to be in possession of a valid ticket or be an inbound passenger.

There is absolutely nothing to stop visitors at an airport such as Auckland from passing through screening to be airside in the gate area, but I'm pretty sure you are actually breaking the law if you're not flying.
