You can transit through Australia now. The bubble mechanism is intended to cover off travel to Australia, and stay there (or travel from Australia, and stay here).

You can transit through Australia now. The bubble mechanism is intended to cover off travel to Australia, and stay there (or travel from Australia, and stay here).

And go against government advice by departing NZ. Don't expect any help returning.

I believe you want to go to Taiwan? The trans-Tasman ‘bubble’ will make no difference to your plans since it will not apply to transit passengers. For travel to Taiwan, you are able to travel just the same in May, June, or July, irrespective of the status of travel between Australia and New Zealand.

Transit passengers between New Zealand and Taiwan, transiting through Australia, do not “enter” Australia (no visa required, no customs or immigration checks).

Passengers coming to New Zealand from Taiwan or anywhere else in May, June or July need to be New Zealand citizens and will be subject to the 14-day isolation rule. I note that this requirement is being relaxed a bit and those working in the movie industry will be allowed to enter soon, and those competing in the America’s Cup have applied to be allowed to enter.

Bottom line is, if you are waiting for the trans-Tasman “bubble” to come into force to allow you to transit Australia to Taiwan, this is the wrong thing to wait for, as this new bubble won’t make any difference to this use-case.

to be clear, Taiwanese citizens are able to travel to Taiwan today, transiting through Australia. They are able to leave NZ, and are subject to whatever entry rules Taiwan has. This won’t change because of the mooted trans-Tasman travel bubble.

Lastly, and I do not know this for sure, but I think the trans-Tasman bubble will only apply to citizens of New Zealand and Australia, or permanent residents, and not those on temporary visa’s.

If I was you, and you are wanting to go to Taiwan, you should visit a travel agent for advice. You should take your citizenship/visa details with you.

According to the press this morning, Prime Minister Jacinta Arden is “reasonably confident of a trans-Tasman travel bubble being in place by September”. I understand Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison is not so confident of that timing.

What date is the Election, again?
From that point of view, "NZ says 'Yes', Oz says 'No!' " would be politically nearly as good as a trans-Tasman travel bubble.

More seriously, I think the Australian PM's thinking would be dominated by whether inter-state borders in Australia have been open for at least a fortnight, maybe three or four weeks, with no Covid resurgence - I'd say this is likely but not at all certain.

Alternatively, would he be prepared to accept "trans-Tasman travel mini-bubbles" for direct flights between, say, Queensland and NZ and/or WA and NZ, whilst interstate borders remain shut? I think this unlikely as the NSW & Vic state tourism people would be very angry if their markets are closed but Queensland & Western Australia are open to Kiwi tourists.
Customs & Immigration are Federal responsibilities, so it's Scott Morrison's call

I noticed over the past couple of days Qantas is taking their A380s one by one to Victorville USA:

Qantas expected that they'd be grounded for at least 3 years due to C-19, no guarantee they'd ever come back. There are storage airports in Aus being used by at least SIA for A380 storage. The destination airport for the Qantas planes is a boneyard - so my guess is they're doomed. It's a bit sad.

We need to maximise this opportunity. We can be a star for a few years

Victorville is a huge storage area - the fact they're going there doesn't mean those aircraft will be doomed.

Aircraft owners can also specify where they want their aircraft parked up, because they may well be contributing to (or even paying) the ongoing costs of being parked up. Air NZ for example have most of their 77W fleet going to the US as well eventually.

Most airlines are sending their wide bodies to the US as the storage fees are much cheaper in than in their home countries. Some may not return, some will.

NZ can barely cope with incoming NZ residents safely, so I can't see it being a priority until that dries up, or we can increase capacity safely . We are having to throttle down people returning currently, and in Oz they are doing the same thing, due to too many people returning and the isolation hotels likely being a major source of the latest outbreak, so it has to be managed more carefully and safely . We also may see an increase if NZers start to make trips overseas for trip, unless the government bans this. They would also all need isolating in hotels with at least the same security to keep people from escaping. I have previously seen mention of using student hostels , but from what has occurred with people escaping, and now needing to use police so people can be detained who try to escape, I can't now see that happening. But all these students will also need to pay for their isolation stay, so they would need to factor that into their ticket price.

It is possibly NZ is going to be printing money to the region of 120billion dollars due to the effects of covid on the economy. So it has to be managed carefully to eliminate any risk.

Without a vaccine, that isn't going to happen in the way we have been used to.
And mass-scale vaccination doesn't look likely for starting our academic year in March 2021 - there may be a vaccine by then, but it's entirely improbable that it will be available in billions of doses. March 2022, maybe.

According to https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12329356, there were around sixty thousand (60,000!) overseas tertiary students in NZ before the pandemic struck, and about half of them have gone home.
We are struggling at the moment with about six to seven thousand people in managed isolation, providing quarantine space for another thirty to fifty thousand is quite beyond imagining, particularly as the vast majority are going to be eighteen, nineteen or twenty years old.
Then there's the high school age students, which have been a very important cashflow generator for some high schools.

I'm afraid that our mass 'export education' industry is going to have to completely re-invent itself, or go into hibernation until 2022. Maybe some elite post-graduate programmmes will be able to bring in a few dozens or hundreds of students.

I found Qantas statement from June:

"While most of the Group’s long-haul aircraft are expected to steadily return to service over time, there is significant uncertainty as to when flying levels will support its 12 Airbus A380s".
